And how do you build a program that contends for conference championships every year? It doesn't happen over night, DC is taking us in the right direction, but it takes time to build a program, and not just a winning team. We will be right there for the conference championship this year, every team in the mountain division isn't much better than NM outside of Boise. It takes time to build a program, so just relax and let him build it like he is doing.DocHolliday said:Win we did.
A win in what I considered to be a lackluster effort that would have cost us against a better team.
The fact that any team can go bowling with only 6 wins is a disgrace...then again mediocrity is now championed in America.
Lastly, 6 wins and bowl game might satisfy some, but for myself it does not.
I want more than 6 wins - I want 8-9 wins and I want to be in contention for a MWC Championship EVERY year.
Am I desiring something too unrealistic?
Oh yeah, I want a defense that can control the line of scrimmage more often than not and wrap up and tackle a ball carrier more than once in every ten tries.
And I am damn tired of this pathetic excuse of a fan base. We have been a shitty program for years, we can't just turn that around over night. This program is going in the right direction, DC is the right coach, and we need to pay him that kind of money to keep him here. I have never seen a fan base that has had minimal success, almost through the entirety of it be so pissed off at winning a game and being 4-2 and 2-0 in conference play.Wyovanian said:Don't know about y'all, but I'm pretty damn tired of throwing a million a year at a coach...
Right turn, right turn... sorry, zero progress...YankPoke said:And how do you build a program that contends for conference championships every year? I could care less what the defense looks like if we are winning games. It doesn't matter if you have a great defense, or a great offense. As long as you win the game. We have a top ten offense in the nation statistically so who cares what our defense does as long as they do enough to win. Look at Fresno that d is absolutely horrible, yet you don't see them complaining about winning shootouts every week.DocHolliday said:Look it, I understand and generally side with those who say it takes time to build something of value - this is true of most anything...however I have seen no evidence whatsoever that DC has been able to develop a defense worthy of a championship season -- or a season in which a championship is contended for.
That, and lets be honest guys (and gals), there are high school teams that tackle with more consistency than the UW defense does.
Where is the progress? Where was this program before DC? We have been a bad program for much of our history, and have some periods of great success. DC has taken us to what will be 3 bowl games in 5 years, we have the highest academic scores in the program history, we never have problems with kids getting in trouble with law enforcement. We have beaten the Sheep every single year, we have a top 10 offense in the country, we have a legit early round draft pick at QB, how many times has that happened? So yes there has been progress, and if you don't see that you are delusional.Wyovanian said:Right turn, right turn... sorry, zero progress...YankPoke said:And how do you build a program that contends for conference championships every year? "We suck!" "Get rid of DC!" "Even though we won, we should have lost!" "I wish we HAD lost!" "I refuse to enjoy this win and be 2-0 in conference play!"

It doesn't matter what the defense does if the offense scores more points, look at Fresno who has a worse d than us by far. We will be right there for the MWC crown this season, and next season we very well could be the favorite for it with everyone we bring back, the schedule, and the people the rest of the conference is losing.
That is just what I see, more due to the fact that the conference is pretty bad this year, and USU without Keeton can't compete with anyone at the top. Next year we are the only team that brings back practically everyone, and everyone else at the top is losing a lot of key players. Plus next year we play the bottom of the West division, and have Boise and USU at home so the schedule is very favorable.DocHolliday said:YankPoke said:Doc we will win 8-9 games this season, and the mountain division title will come down to the game in Boise. I hope you're right my friend...I'd love that scenario
Fajardo of Nevada should not be overlooked, unless he's injured again.YankPoke said:That is just what I see, more due to the fact that the conference is pretty bad this year, and USU without Keeton can't compete with anyone at the top.
