We should let Svoboda

I mean, sure the play call could have been better, but tbh it wasn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. The pass itself was horrendous.

He had his man (a receiver with at least 6 inches on the guys in front of him) open, with plenty of space in the back of the end zone. If he doesn't horrifically short arm that ball, it's an easy TD.

Granted, at this point Johnson should know there's a 50/50 chance that Svoboda absolutely tanks a pass like that, so I digress.

On a broader note, we really need to just drop the Wildcat packages.

JJ seems to think that just because we have a former QB at TE means we have to find a way to utilize those sets. But it's not working.

Successful Wildcat packages are predicated on a dual threat, with athletes that are great runners but are also a decent threat to pass. Boise State's red zone packages with Grant Hedrick (Kellen Moore's backup) were a great example of this and were part of the reason they had so much success during their heyday.

Svoboda is clearly not a passing threat, which forces you into run-only options and everyone in the stadium...including defenses....knows it.

Svoboda is also not a good enough runner for us to rely on his legs alone. We've seen him get stuffed more often than not, or only pick up a yard or two when we needed 4 or 5.

Svoboda is also not a good decision maker; we've seen multiple instances where he hands off when he shouldn't...or, conversely, pulls when he shouldn't. He doesn't make good reads and that's half the reason he's no longer a QB in the first damned place.

I'm going to throw up if I see us trot out the Wildcat one more time.

This year CSU has been using the wildcat with Bullock producing very marginal results although I would prefer him over the slower not many moves Svoboda.

There was a huge reason why Svoboda was the 4th string QB at a very weak Snow JC. He wasn’t seriously recruited by the FCS despite media write ups. He really only had a senior HS season in Mesa limited by Covid. His main advantage was he had the size of a big man going against a bunch of high schoolers who weren’t exactly physical specimens. And to have Bohl advertise nationally for a QB and then sign him almost the next day shows just how serious the program has been about the pursuit of playmakers.
