Maybe the abyss is better than playing for PBJ and WYO? Hard questions aren't easy..
He got hurt on Wyoming’s time, no? We should take care of injuries. This is happening across the board - Ike with Linder, Volk with Branch, and Waylee with Sawvel. These coaches appear to be getting played like a fiddle. These top athletes get medical attention and get to rehab on UWs dime and then bolt. It’s so damn frustrating. I’d like to know how much we spent in medical expenses on those three alone. It has to get ironed out, it’s just ludicrous the way it’s structured at the moment with no caps, no contracts, no buyouts, etc.
Not originally. He was injured before he even came to UW (ACL). UW likely saved his career. He got hurt on Wyoming’s time, no? We should take care of injuries.
I agree we should take care of injuries, but letting him sit after he was healed so he could be healthy at his next team, when he could have contributed to our (shitty) season? Nah.He got hurt on Wyoming’s time, no? We should take care of injuries.
What is the marginal cost of an injury rehabilitation? Is UW paying per injury? I would assume the team has some sort of insurance policy and pays premiums regardless of who is injured and who transfers.I agree we should take care of injuries, but letting him sit after he was healed so he could be healthy at his next team, when he could have contributed to our (shitty) season? we let him sit thinking we'd get the extra year.I agree we should take care of injuries, but letting him sit after he was healed so he could be healthy at his next team, when he could have contributed to our (shitty) season? Nah.
Most athletes have their own insurance thru their parents or Medicaid. Those that don't are covered under a plan paid for by UW. Any athletic-related injury will be charged to primary insurance and then UW picks up what primary doesn't.What is the marginal cost of an injury rehabilitation? Is UW paying per injury? Unless the therapists are working for free there is cost of in house therapy and rehab. The equipment, facilities and personnel are all costs that the university has to bear. Most athletes have their own insurance thru their parents or Medicaid. Obviously surgeries are all covered. The vast majority of all rehab is done in house, so it costs UW virtually nothing.
I think what WestWYO is trying to say is that there are no ADDITIONAL costs for in-house rehab. The trainers are getting paid as full time employees already, so having them work on rehab with specific players doesn't add any expenses like having an outside physical therapist coming in would.Unless the therapists are working for free there is cost of in house therapy and rehab. Yes, this...UW (like most NCAA athletic departments) does not employ Physical Therapists. The work of rehab is done by Athletic Trainers that are already on staff.I think what WestWYO is trying to say is that there are no ADDITIONAL costs for in-house rehab. The point is there is a cost to in house therapy and rehab. UW pays some amount per year for athletic trainers, physical therapists and medical services related to the UW athletic program. That number is not sensitive to players transferring or not transferring. As a Wyoming fan, I recognize that this transfer system has harmed us from a competitive standpoint but the cost to provide athletics related health care doesn't change whether Waylee transfers or not.The point is there is a cost to in house therapy and rehab. Whether it is done by athletic trainers or physical therapists they do not work for free.
Interesting concept. There should be transfer fees like there are in the major soccer leagues around the world.
Texas wants our promising freshman WR that they didn’t think was good enough to offer out of high school, but have changed their mind after seeing him play a year in college? Sure, but that comes with a price tag you have to pay UW for developing him for the past year.
No limits on transfers or money making potential for the athletes but makes whole the teams that spent resources to develop the players these other teams are swooping in and taking.
