UW still ruining the gameday experience...

Limited band play, and limited cheerleader involvement...all for the sake of the pathetic in-game marketing & advertising! I guess I can continue to bitch, and bitch, and bitch, but as far as the UW administration (specifically whomever runs the marketing & promotion piece) is concerned, they have no concern for the fan & in-game experience. For them, it is all about the $$ they can generate from advertising. LET THE BAND PLAY! And LET THE CHEERLEADERS START SOME CHEERS!

But don't you want to hear how exciting it is to stay in a HOTEL in Casper, and go to a sporting goods store?

One of the things I've often said is that If I become rich I will give UW money to do less adds during the games - I can't stand them either.

I am with you...and don't forget...STAY OFF METH!

Hell, doesn't the marketing department at UW already know...if we made it through the Vic & Joe years without becoming addicted to meth, we aren't going to start NOW!

Give the band some more opportunities to PLAY, and let the cheerleaders CHEER! The band & cheerleaders should never be blamed for any lack of gameday experience...they are pathetically handcuffed by thier own administration &/or marketing department. WAKE UP UW! It is laughable almost how much the UW game day experience has been whored out for a few bucks.

Should have heard the Texas fans comment on what they thought was a bunch of TV commercials!

I think the gameday experience is better when we have a crowd, in general...not a half-empty stadium due to poor driving conditions.

That being said, whoever on the GWG was bitching about there being snow in the stands still needs to shut her packer-fan mouth. That was way fun to get to throw snowballs in the air after each TD. I had never been to a game like that and had always wanted to, since I've been at UW.

That is hilarious! Must be the same old group that complains when fans around "them" are too loud, yell to much, and make too much noice!

Peachy, you know I agree with you. But in defense of the band, it's awfully difficult to play a lot in games like Saturday's. Horns freeze, pads stick, mouthpeices get stuck, etc. So, while I don't excuse it entirely, I can understand the marketing dept. making up for the band's inability to play as much as they would probably like to.

My biggest gripe is the piped in music. We don't need to hear "Black Betty" and "Raise a little hell" to know that it's third down and we need to get loud. Let the band play prior to third down's or let the cheerleaders start the WYO chant. Good grief!

Oh, and the fact that they've COMPLETELY quit the first down thing is bunk. I know the student's ruined it, but can we not try it again, especially at a game where there were maybe 1000 students? I'm sure B&G would be happy to have their name announced 20 or 25 times every game!

GO POKES!

I didn't expect to hear it at the UNLV game. How many chances are you going to give them?

I am completely dissatisfied with the state of the current events myself. But the question is....other than me, how many of you guys/girls actually take the time to write to the AD? Things dont change until alot of us join together and make them change it. Write the AD, or make a petition to email around and people sign, then send it to the AD demanding an answer.

It is no secret that I am not a fan of Burmans. Will he listen? Probably not. But, it is a start and with enough persistance, it may make a difference.

I wasn't at the UNLV game, but I'm surprised that we as fans are willing to let something like that go so easily. And I'm really surprised that the AD is willing to let one more source of revenue go that easily.

Seems to me that the students at that game acted pretty well. I only heard "##'s a bitch" once, and didn't see any snow being thrown onto the field, which I completely expected, at least towards NM players. IMO, we should have given it a shot... :twocents:

As soon as 30,000 fans a game show up (every game, not just Texas, BYU, CSU, etc.. ) then the advertising may go away. The administration is doing all it can to keep up with schools bringing in big crowds without jacking the prices on the tickets up.

Bingo, until Wyoming fans stop coming up with excuses for coming to games (hunting, other sports, weather although this weekend it was a valid one, weddings, who knows what) and start packing the War every week to support the pokes instead of to see a good opposing team, our athletics department has to make up the financial ground somewhere to stay competitive. I don't like the advertising either, but I still think its embarrassing that we struggle to average 23-25K fans a year.

I disagree. We could sell 60,000 to every game (theoretically) and the current trend will stay the way it is now...with some marketing guru shoving crap advertisements down our throats...the same marketing guru who knows NOTHING about the in-game fan experience!!!

If it were fan / count driven, the athletic department would be expanding our stadium (to increase the chance to have 40K or more at a game) rather than decreasing it. Besides, with the huge influx in Wildcatter Suite income (40K x 12, plus 12 x 16 x 175, plus stadium club, etc.), you'd think that the in-game advertisements would slow down...nope...surely it will stay the same.

Well you're right, the two points aren't probably related that much. Attendance really needs to pick up though, and they need to figure out a way to better integrate the advertising/marketing into the game.

I absolutely could not agree more on what you are saying about our attendance. I hate the fact we don't have 30K+ demanding in, each and every game. Hate it. And I am not saying the crappy in-game experience aids in the horrible attendance numbers...but maybe...it does.

If it were a true college football experience (band playing more, cheerleaders allowed to cheer more - and even start cheers, less crappy music, and limited advertisments that take away from the intensity of the game) maybe more fans would want to be a part of it. :?:

I talked to Kevin McKinney about it awhile back and he said the sports marketing company controls most of the game activities. UW gets a check. It's too bad - it makes it too hard for the crowd to stay pumped up.

:D Packer must not have seen the Jay Novacek special on the Mtn where he said that clearing the field and not the stands was part of the Wyoming experience, and his buddies all tried to hit him with snowballs. And I would suggest to Packer and any other fans who don't like snow in the stands that they show up three hours early and bring a snow shovel
