UNLV game

Those upbacks typically have inside blocking duties only.

If a punt formation is set up correctly, an edge rusher should not have time to get to the ball before it is already punted even when left completely unblocked.

That punt was blocked because of a very slow punt time and a bad snap. Those upbacks look bad, but they were doing what they were supposed to do.
Maybe if it happened once I would agree with you. It happened twice and almost 3 other times. No, this was a flaw in the design and assignments. This is on Sawful.

I'm sure you are correct. However, whoever is coaching the special teams now, has to make a change. Should have made a change before the second blocked punt.

For whatever reason, Edmiston was taking forever to punt the ball. It was noticeably slower compared to all other games this season. Maybe because of the weather? I really don't have a good explanation as to why he was so slow to get the ball off in this game.

The snapper was also a major part of the problem on the second blocked punt. He actually took Edmiston right into the unblocked edge rusher with his poor snap.

But I agree with you. When it became clear that Edmiston was not getting the ball off as quickly as he needed to, it is the duty of the coaches to make an adjustment. Change the punt formation. Switch to rugby style punts. Something.
