Apparently, a lot of Wyo fans out there forget that DC is the Reigning MWC Coach of the year. Also that he is coming off of a 8-5 season. When was the last time we won at least 8??? 1998!!! That's right, 14 years ago. Now I'm not saying I'm happy with the current season in any way, but what I am saying is quit acting like a bunch of Nebraska fans and calling for the coach's head because of one bad season.
I haven't. Am I concerned about the future of UW football? Of course. And outside of the Texas game and the last 2, we were in every game, until something went wrong (aside from the Idaho game). Toledo Thugs nailed Smith, giving him a major concussion (begining of the issues was this game), lost to Cal Poly (unlike others, I'm not going to attack Capt. Kirk for being on the field and trying to win) which hurt a lot, somehow beat beat Idaho in OT (Smith was 100% and proved it, though the o-line and d-line were having major issues), lost in OT to 2-3 score favored UNR, mainly due to Smith getting ejected (which ended up being from another concussion) and the refs made some questionable calls (or lack thereof in some cases, which even the UNR fans around me agreed with), lost to Howdy Doody when he got the extended time out from his QB's "injury" (and Thompson's first game starting, he shows real promise, but needs to control his throws better), and then we got boatraced the next 2 games.
Some things I noticed over the season were;
1. The line play on both sides was abysmal at the start of the season.
2. The line play drasically improved after the Idaho game on both sides.
3. O-line took a big step back against Fresno.
4. Aside from Ghaali Muhammed and Korey Jones, our linebackers have been abysmal so far.
5. Secondary has been a mess for the most part.
6. Mike Purcell has really stepped up this year and become a force.
7. Wick and May, when the o-line picks up blocks and makes holes, have shown to be real threats on the ground, giving us a good 1-2 punch with Easton being a guy that is good to get a good yard or 2.
8. McNeil is still solid, and Herron, when healthy, is a threat on every down.
9. Smith, when healthy, is one of the best players in the conference. Unfortunetly, 2 concussions has really set him back.
10. Thompson is showing to be just as fired up as Smith is, with a stronger arm. Only real issues are 1. Experience. 2. Needs to control his throws more as he tends to throw too hard on short throws.
