TV Contracts

I don't know anything about the MWC's tv contract other than it was better than what we've had in the past, and could be better than what we have now.

With BYU raising up a storm the last few days, I was thinking about useless things with tv world.

The TV Contract expires is 2016. Is it feasible that the MWC could renegotiate the contract to allow dual broadcast rights? They could add a clause that it couldn't be rebroadcast in a market that the mtn is already available in. For example, the mtn isn't available in Buford, so UW could sell the rights to a local broadcaster to show the game in Bosler, but not Laramie, since it would compete with the local cable company. If KTWO wanted to broadcast it across the air they could ask cable companies carrying it to block the channel during the game.

As much as I hate to say it, BYU seems to know something about putting a product in front of 65 million subscribers world wide, and for the life of me I have no idea how they can get people to watch BYUTV. Since they seem to have negotiating skills at something nobody wants to watch on tv, maybe they could take over the mtn, grow it, and get it in front of many more eyeballs. I hate to think about getting more involved with BYU, especially after the last few days events, but it might be something they could take and grow bigger than comcast and get the MWC schools more $$$.

Or we could just do it the old fashioned way, destroy all opponents out of conference and embarrass them on their TV. :)

That would never happen. BYU would just end up taking over The MTN. And then they will have BYU tv for church and The MTN for sports. I know how mormons negotiate and make deals. Don't even let them get a foot in the door! I have family member's who say they are fair with their business transactions and end up reaping the benefits...Did i mention those family members are mormon...and in the upper echelon on Zion bank? Poor souls... I have to be honest I hope BYU gets dumped on their Butt! NO Favorites in the MWC. They want everything for themselves (case in point, more money in tv revenue than any other conference team). Let them do it themselves with their byu tv channel. The MWC hates byWHO even more. If their teams hated coming to Laramie before, I'll be there when ever they come to town to show them how much more hated they are! :tickedoff: Ungrateful, sorry peices of Garbage! BYU just leave! We don't want you affiliated with our conference and our schools anymore you little sellouts! Arrogant Losers!

I feel a little better. :D

Ya its probably a bit dangerous. I'd wake up one morning and find out they aren't broadcasting because they are mad at the conference or something.

Call me selfish, but what I'd really like to do is be able to go to southwest wyoming, colorado, or montana and have a good chance of finding a place to catch the game on TV. Today you can't do that very easily. And I would really like to be able to logon to wyomingathletics.com, walk into brown and gold, or the university bookstore and buy the Wyoming FAU FB game on DVD, or Wyoming SDSU basketball game, etc.

We can't do that today for some reason. I think it would add value if we could.

Somewhere along the line there has to be a win win situation for Wyoming - increased eyeballs, sales, etc. It seems like there is untapped value tied up in contracts.

Again, I really don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Just ideas.

I am sure cbs/comcast are better at getting ppl to watch games than byu.

Fuck byu, seriously I hate them and I hope for only bad things in their future. I also think it is bullshit that they tried to organize the WAC in that way without the MWC knowing about it. There should be a clause in the MWC that doesn't allow teams to go under the radar. BYU tried to back stab us and got the wac to sign 5 mill contracts in order to ruin the MWC. Some morals the mormon church has, thats why I don't like religions that are run like a business and colleges that are controlled by religions. (BYU has to get approval from LDS church to move conference, I don't have anything against mormon individuals they have the right to believe whatever they want even if it seems silly/weird to the vast majority of people.) As far as I know BYU is the only school that is run this way, TCU, Notre Dame, SMU, Boston college, and the hundres of small catholic schools operate independent of their religion/church. THerefore, fuck byu and fuck the mormon church for all this bull shit.

Oh I won't argue with you about the ethics behind BYU. It would be shady at best for us to even consider something like this. I'm just thinking of Win/Win situations where everyone wins.

I think TCU is a model example of a good school with ties to religion. They steam rolled the conference last year and when they scored enough points, they backed off on the entire conference. BYU - ha, they just rubbed it in because they lost to TCU. I forget TCU has those ties, and have nothing but respect for them. The only thing I can think of even possibly questionable was that hit on Sween a few years ago. But its football, its minor, s**t happens, not worth thinking about.

I could really care less if BYU is in the conference or not anymore. But if they are and can serve a positive and safe purpose for us, win win, it might be worth taking a look at.

In reality, most of me wants to see them go independent and shrivel up into a has-been program.

According to the deal (from what I read over on the MWC board), the MWC can renegotiate the tv contract when it adds or loses members. And according to the teleconference with Thompson, just before Fresno and Nevada were invited, Thompson was chatting with Comcast/CBS or whoever it was about the tv contract. So i think the MWC will be getting a new tv deal pretty soon.
