Truly Pathetic

We do have a ways to go, but when you are completely re-doing a program it takes time his recruits will improve as time goes and all these kids will get better as they play. Just give it some time and then judge later on in year four or five.

How many true freshmen and sophomores were playing for CSU tonight? i know they had 5 seniors. Wyoming doesn't get true freshmen who look like D-1 players their first year or two. Not many schools do unless you are Kentucky and occasionally UNLV can get a McDonald's all American. Wyoming will always rely on having upperclassme. Look at CSU. They are really good because they have age.

I'm excited to see who we sign. We need some guys who can compete immediately. As I've said, I think we will see 3 new starters next season...

True, but his recruits are terrible.
^^^What people were saying about Boise State's players this time last year.

Give Shyatt and this team time.....this one tough conference....Do not fret, Utah State and San Jose State are coming to everyone's rescue next year.

That's simply not true about Boise. Quite the opposite. The consensus was that once those kids grew up they would be formidable. They are certainly ahead of schedule, as I think most expected them to contend for the NCAA's next year or the year after, but the talent and potential were obvious. There is nobody on our team like Marks or Drmic. They were BSU's two leading scorers as freshman and you could see the talent develop.

Wyoming started two seniors, two sophomores, and one freshman. We are young, but not ridiculously so.

Wyoming has had plenty of players that can play as freshman or sophomores (Ewing, Jones, Muojeke, Jackson, Davis, Ugo, Uche, Straight, McMillan, etc.) and CSU's current players were productive as underclassmen. Dorian Green led them in scoring as a true freshman as they went 7-9 in the MWC. Eikmeier, Green, Smith, and Hornung were all productive as sophomores.

That doesn't mean our young guys won't improve. I think Nance has really been in a tough spot with the injury, then illness, and losing weight, etc. He will be better next year, and Cooke will as well as he gains experience. I think Adams will grow as a player as well. However, we simply don't have enough raw talent to expect growth and maturity to do the job.

If i wanted to witness a total mugging like that was I woulda walked down Crenshaw Ave in S L.A., they got away with virtually everything down there, that thug Iverson is a punk, Eeeekmeier is a cry baby and it turned into a football game and it was tough to beat them little alone with Dave Hall and his zebra crew. I knew we wouldn't win, but it's funny how it seemed like there was total favorittism going on by them dumb zebras. I'm kinda glad that's over, as I've expent alot of energy watching this team. It's apparent we are nowhere close to having the type of athletes to compete at this level, and something truly has to change and get better to be a force in this league. Truly can see total fatigue by us, with all the heavy minutes the starters have played. 72 hours of nothing but rest may help us, but if the season ended today, we'd be playing Nevada in the play-in game, which isn't a bad thing as we match up well against the Bozo's if we get that far. It was a fun season at times and I only imagine if Luke coulda played and stayed outta trouble how many more wins we woulda got, maybe 4 more wins??? Maybe someday we'll get the type of players that know how to play true bball and we finally get to winning more and taking care of business. We'll see what happens next week and from there after.

Oh yeah CSU will be knocked back down to earth after graduation and we'll compete better against them next year, I sat in the student section and still shaking my head how those ushers allowed those pesky CSU fans to sit next to me there, they were truly thorns in the side and causing alot of animosity all night long, lack of class on their part, but I held my tongue and temper to not knock those punks into the ground last night

Jesus stop blaming the refs every time we lose. We lost by over 20 points at home. I think this team has bigger issues than the refs.

were you there, did you watch??? i know it's not the only reason we lost but come on it's hard to play 8 on 5 at times

I was there. I would say we lost because we were heavily out-matched experience, skill, and talent wise. But the refs were pathetic (as I have come to expect from each and every MWC game - men's & women's). And both teams took (or were given) shitty calls. Maybe we had a few more bad calls against us than CSewe...but they were starting / playing 5 experienced seniors...and as such, they know how to get those calls, and avoid others.

Any other mandatory posts missing? I'm not incoherent enough to imitate wyoming fishing's writing style.

You forgot Beaverpoke and Kansas Cowboy's quotes:

Don't worry guys, we're going to go on a run and win the MWC tournament, then the NCAA tournament, and then Darious Gilmore is going to be the top pick in the draft.

Thanks for putting words in my mouth. If you can prove I ever said that??? I didn't think so. All I said was everyone on here predicted 15-18 wins this season and here we stand at 18-12.
Where am I wrong? And more importantly, why are you an ASS?

Because I'm tired of a decade of ineptness by the Cowboy football and basketball teams. I'm tired of watching Gonzaga and Virginia Commowealth and the Boise States of the world turn their programs into powerhouses while we flounder around the bottom of the Mountain West Conference year after year after year after year after year after year after year.

And because you're tired of this, you decide it's best to look and act like an ASS? I would love for Wyoming to be a powerhouse too, but, you know what? I also understand that NONE of those schools did it in one year. And we just got ourselves a new coach, who is now two years in, with TWO winning records.
Tell me what is better, 10-21 and then 10-21 and see how our recruiting goes. Or 21-12 and 18-12(currently) and see how our recruiting goes.
This team is quite literally on the cusp of being that good. Martinez mistake screwed us. Even then the "majority" of our losses were insanely close: BSU buzzer beater loss (2 points), AFA in it all game long loss (9 points), UNM close to the end loss (4 points), At BSU near comeback loss (7 points), At AFA, in it all game long, just could pull it out loss ( 6 points), Even UNM at UNM was close till the end. This team had the potential to be very good. Had a couple of baskets and fouls went the other way you are looking at a team that you have been dreaming of.
Had we not had injuries: Nance (wrist), Washington (ankle), Cooke (backbone), Grabau (knee)
And legal issues: Martinez
we would be 24-6 right now. And I'm sure had that happened you wouldn't even be complaining about our recruiting either.

So, in retrospect. Complain all you want, but don't get tunnel vision and think we are so terrible when our second year HC has us at 21-12 and 18-12.
We are heading in the right direction as you can see by our success (yes a close loss is a success, when three of your four top scorers are out at the same time or any given time) And our recruiting can not be that bad since our young guys have kept us in a lot of these games (Adams avg scoring and solid D, Grabau, Avg scoring, good ball control, Cooke Good rebounding, Sobey avg to good 3 pt threat) All of them have had solid performances throughout the year, and have kept us in games. These young guys will grow and build with their experience.
And also, complain all you want, but do not just randomly throw my name out there when you cannot even quote me.

That last one is priority "#1"!

I don't know what you mean, because I do my best not to misquote anyone. Or just constantly compare.

Why are you getting involved anyway? Your buddy gettin smacked on here, so you need to jump in to try and help out?

Here's what I think we should do. This goes for both basketball and football. Hire and fire coaches over and over and over and never find any results but continue to blame coaching for our mediocrity. We should never come to terms with the fact that good quality athletes for these sports simply don't want to live in Wyoming. That way we can always have unrealistic expectations and then at the end of the season we all turn on each other and bicker and hate life.

Sound about right? Let's get real here, folks. Wrestling is about the only sport we offer where country boys can be NCAA material and be perfectly content living in Laramie. Every other sport requires city guys for decent talent, and Laramie is unappealing for them. No coach can change that.

Laramie has never been a large city.

Wyoming has had plenty of success in both revenue sports (keep in mind nobody is expecting final four here, simply .500 in conference play...a conference of our peers, not the Big 10 BTW).

What is different in 2012/13 that prevents success in relation to our conference peers? You can make a pretty good case that the financial gap between the SEC/Big10/etc. of the world and the MWC has grown dramatically over the last couple of decades and that it might be harder to bridge that gap (actual competitive results don't support it though as the current MWC is the strongest it has ever been in hoops nationally and the peak of FB competitiveness was just a few years ago), but I don't see how anything has changed in regards to Wyoming vs. the rest of the MWC/WAC...except for actual execution. UNM spent tons of money rebuilding the Pit and hiring Alford, SDSU built a brand new arena and went out and got a name coach, the arms race in FB has been fierce, etc. Those are all within our control. Laramie was just as cold in 1988 and 2002 as it is today, and just as sparsely populated in comparison to urban/suburban areas of the U.S. (on a side note, the whole "city kid" thing is really a misnomer. Most of the talent is produced in the suburbs today.)

So, in the 50s and 60s, agruably our best 2 decades ever, those never happened? Or how about Roach? His tenure never happened? Laramie was smaller in the 80s than now, and MUCH smaller in the 50s and 60s than now. So it can be done. But no one EVER said it was easy.

Not arguing that point, but the game is SO much different now than back then. Money is everything, and the system makes it hard to sustain success. The game was far less political in that era....not to mention, like NowherePoke pointed out, recruiting has become and will become increasingly harder the more our countries culture changes. Just a stark reality. Doesn't mean Wyoming can't have some marginal success, but the delusion of being "big time" can be nixed.
