Trib.com Article on Lieberman

Lander is in love with JJ AND Marshall. JJ had a terrible game against UNLV. JJ will be a better player but for winning one game this year, Liebs is a better call and coach knows this

Hey, I love JJ and I like Marshall a lot(wish he could get more time), but to say JL is not in Grabau's league at the same time in their careers is ludicrous. Im not bashing you Lander, just saying I think your recollection of Grabau is a lot of just his senior year.....

That's the point. JL and RG are definitely in the same league. And it's not something to be excited about. Unless there's two other NBA players and a D-league player on next year's team to hide him we're going to find ourselves near the bottom of the MWC again.

It's ok guys. Lander won't be satisfied until we have a lineup that's a mix between UNLV, SDSU and New Mexico.

Forget that, we need to have a lineup that's comparable with the likes of Duke and Kentucky or we might as well just fire Shyatt.

We aren't going to recruit like them, but why are teams like Fresno and UNR destroying us on recruiting? Nevadas freshman big dominated our 2nd and 3rd year players. Do you feel confident in predicting us to finish in the top 3 in the next 2 years based on our current talent level?

I would have if Herndon had shown more improvement. Might be in for another building year

I definitely understand the point Landerpoke brings up about liebs but I hope he is wrong. We do seem to be less athletic then SDSU and UNLV on average at every position (except Josh obviously) this year. Although I think that Justin James and Naughton are the key next year. James is every bit as athletic as anyone we have played this year and Naughton was eating Zimmerman up inside on most occasions. I hope they can take a big leap forward next year.

I do like liebs more lately though. I am biased because I loved watching Grabau play and the way he always was in the right position on both ends of the floor. I have said before that I would rather watch kids like Grabau than watch kids that are super athletic but don't play with a chip and don't play smart. I got frustrated watching Mclains last few years and Schoyers years because we were pretty athletic but lacked common basketball sense, an offense and discipline on defense.

Going back to Landerpokes point, next year is going to be a tough year I think though. The kid that is coming in from TRidge isn't tearing up the world either (3rd leading scorer on his own team at 10 ppg and I believe 2nd leading rebounder on his own team 5 or 6 rpg) so he will probably redshirt unless he surprises everyone. I think the 2017 class will be really important. (Hunter Thompson, Parker Stewart, and that kid from Hawaii or Utah would be huge!!!

Look Lieberman isn't going to light it up like Josh ever - but if he can start to hit threes and shots like Stephen Curry, none of us will care. No Landerpoke, I'm not comparing Lieberman to Curry, just saying if he gets back to hitting big shots, it will make it easier for us next year. I am actually more confident about next year than this year because we were so young. Yes we lose Josh, but we will have so much more experience next year and the team chemistry will be much better as we only lose Josh "the word only is not taken lightly" -

IMO the #1 job of a point guard, especially a little point guard is being able to get by your man off the dribble and distribute to the open man. I've only see this from Josh, JJ, Trey washington and occasionally JMac this year. Our offense is predicated on someone being able to get into the lane and score or kick out for the three. I hope Conway is as quick as advertised because we're going to need someone to get penetration off the bounce next year.

Avea, the recruit from Hawaii/utah signed with BYU im pretty sure.

He hasn't signed anywhere for sure as a Class of 2017. I don't see him as being verbally committed anywhere, but that doesn't mean anything. If BYU offers we have no chance, just like with Yoeli Childs.

Maybe in McLain's "One Game" offense, but our offense is NOT predicated on dribble penetration by the PG. At least not without a high pick and roll. It's motion offense. It isn't like we are running iso for Adams every time up the court.

We often do after we run the shot clock down to 7 seconds. Even when we try high screen and rolls Adams is still the only one that can get into the lane. Last year we ran the offense through Larry on the elbow or the low left block. The only way we're able to get points is if Adams penetrates and scores, dishes or kicks out. I don't see a super dominant big emerging so I bet next year's offense will be very similar to this year's.

Without TW3 and James, the Cowboys are short at PG, thank god Josh and Lieberman have great conditioning, but we don't have anyone else to back those two up. Foul trouble will kill us and I hope Shyatt is talking to both of them about how important that is in every game in the Tourney. No sloppy or stupid fouls.

Not to sound like i don't think it sucks that Dalton and James out doesn't hurt our teams chances but i'm excited to see Naughton play more and maybe see Cody Kelly play a little.

Kelly isn't gonna play. Burn a redshirt so he can play 5 minutes? No way.
