Trey Washington has left the basketball program

We have a log jam at PG? With Trey gone, next year we have a Junior PG that everyone seems to think is terrible and will have a freshman. That's pretty thin. Especially since they usually like to have 2 ball handlers on the court together and I don't know anyone else on the team I would trust to handle the ball next year.

I don't consider Dalton and Herndon the same type of player. Maybe they are but I think their game is different. I think they both have great futures with the cowboys. Herndon is on the verge of having adequate size. ANother off season and he should be fine size-wise. I think he can be pushing 220 by next year. No doubt Dalton needs to gain weight but there is no reason to think that he won't. I think his outside game is better than Herndon's as he shot 45%-ish from 3 in JUCO and has started to shoot better lately. He could be a sharpshooter by next year. Herndon is ok outside but he needs to attack the rim more. Bottom line I wouldn't want to be rid of either one of them.

I am not sure where they are gonna go with the scholarship. Another tall athletic wing is always a good thing. But another guard that can handle the ball wouldn't be bad either, if he could be tall and athletic that would be great.[/quote]

1. Yes we had a log jam at PG. We had four players that can only play the same position, two of them the same class . So we had 4 out of 13 schoolies tied up at one position with two of those the same class. Now we have the 3 with a year in-between, much better. We will get another, not this year but next.

2. That was my point about too many players that can only play one position, we need more wings that can handle the ball and be in the 6' 4' to 6'7' range.

3. Herdon and Dalton ARE the exact same player... too thin to bang inside and too slow to be effective on the perimeter one on one. Sure they can shoot an open jump shot, but neither can get to the rim or penetrate for a mid-range jumper on their own. Dalton is a little more aggressive, but that doesn't help his weight nor his athleticism. i.e. see SDSU.

4. To tell me you would not trade either one for Cameron Oliver (6'9" 225) just shows me how little you know about other players in this league. Oliver is just a freshman and is dominating every team and player he plays against. Herndon has been on the team for three years and this is Daltons second year post high school, Oliver makes these two look like Junior High players. Oliver is averaging 12 points/gm - 9 rebounds/gm and 2.5 blocks/gm as a freshman. Herndon is 7 - 4 and .8, Dalton is 4 - 3 and .5. I guess you decide.....

5. We don't need another point guard right now....unless he is 6'5" and can play both wing and point.

This team would be heads and tails above where they are if they could finally get some size to our PG and SG/SF. I played lower level college basketball and we had 6'4" -6'6" SG's, I don't think its much to ask a D1 school to have taller SG's/PG's. I truly believe our biggest problem is our PG's are too short to be effective wings, and our 6'9" players are too thin to be of any help down low. But whatever, everyone has their opinions....its what makes the world great.

Trey was starting to do well and I liked him and Lieberman handling the ball with Josh and JMac. I only wish him well - rumor has it that its personal reasons and I won't discuss rumors on this board out of respect for Trey. Lets remember Trey redshirted last year and they won the MWC Tourney - had to be tough on him psychologically. I agree we had a traffic jam at PG. JJ has to improve his conditioning and become a gym rat like Lieberman and yes Barnes - Barnes is built like a brick shit house, but has to work on his fundamentals, such a waste.

Landerpoke - what is your hard on with Lieberman??? Every time you post, its Lieberman's fault Wyoming lost and I just don't see it - I assume if Lieberman doesn't play tomorrow, you'll post it was Lieberman's fault because he was on the bench, lol. I did some research on this kid and he won two CIF California championships, played against some very athletic kids in LA who are all over the NCAA starting line-up including Arizona players and was a hell of a shooter which is why Coach Shyatt offered him a scholarship. My guess, Lieberman needs to get out of his head and grow a pair and just shoot with confidence. I still think this team is missing a really strong bond and I'm not sure how Coach Shyatt builds that bridge. These guys have nothing better to do in Laramie and should be spending their free time together like the Band of Brothers.

Still hope for this year, but its fading. Remember we are the 4th youngest team in the NCAA and I believe we have a better record than UCLA which I just saw online (yes, the PAC-12 is not the MWC) just saying.

Good Luck Trey - I hope you get to a D2 program near home.

Go Cowboys!

Lieberman will be a good player. Same as grabau and jmac as an underclassman. Granted, he doesn't quite possess the assist to turnover ratio that grabau had but I see the same complaints about him as those other two had

Anyone who cannot see Liberman's positive strides and continued improvement throughout this season isn't capable of comprehending basketball. Period. The kid is a potential future captain, he's a hard worker, his teammates love him, and he's much better than he was in his Freshman year.

Lieberman is doing great at CSU...... I hope he keeps it up. Go Pokes

Lieberman is twice the player than the guy who just left the program -- those purporting TW was the better player won't ever be employed as scouts or asked to break down any film.

Lieberman really had a great game......we need that every game. If he can hit his shots, he might average 14 to 20 points a game next season which we need. Mac is definitely a Captain. JJ can step it up if he dedicates himself in the offseason. He will have to live in the gym and it will pay off - as will Naughton who I think is a sleeping giant.

Trey - only wish you the best young man.

Who are the 4 players playing PG. Next year I see two. Liebs and a freshman. Look I am all for getting a big athletic wing but I also think we need someone to handle the ball. Is there someone else on the team that can handle to PG duties? Maybe I don't know. THey haven't been asked to do it all year. MAybe we will see now that trey is gone if someone else will be asked to run the point. I'm all for getting a 6-5 athletic ball handler.

I don't know where I said I wouldn't want Oliver. I think he is the best post player we have played against all year. I would take him in a second. You know what? I would also take Ben Simmons but neither are here so I don't know what your point is. At this point I wouldn't trade Herndon or Dalton for another unproven recruit. Think they are both poised to have good years next year. I've seen flashes of their ability and think the step between sophmoer to junior year is a big one in this program.

Will history repeat? Last season Sellers bailed (thanks Mrs. Sellers) and we go on a tear and will the MWC tournament. Now we have Trey leave and we dismantle CSU in Moby. This program apparently thrives on human sacrifices.

If that's true, I can nominate a few candidates from this board ;)

so, before washington left, it was Adams, Lieberman, Washington and Conway. so this year we now have three left, and please don't tell me Adams is not a point...he is a point playing pg/sg. next year we will have two, you are correct, but we didn't need Washington and Lieberman. Too many "same player" types on the floor at once if they both play at the same time. It would have been ok, if they were a year or two apart, but they aren't.

you did mention that you wouldn't trade either one...I would trade both for a next level big. Sorry, (they are both coming along and I like both kids, don't get me wrong) but neither one is a difference maker and never will be. It blows me away how fast some of us forget what an athletic, talented big looks like, its been just one year since we had one. I guess we will have to disagree.

Agreed 100%. Lieberman, I believe, will explode now that he isn't looking over his shoulder. I think he and Washington were just fighting for coaches attention, so to speak. trying too hard to not make mistakes knowing the other one would be in at any second. just my :twocents:

Well since we were talking about next year that's why I was confused by the 4 you mentioned. Next year we only have 2 PG and one is a freshman. In my mind that is not a logjam. We can definitely use another guy who can score of the dribble in the backcourt but also someone to handle the ball. A player like Josh Adams would be great(no kidding huh) if he was taller great. I don't know where the staff is going to go nor do I know where I want them to go with it. Another big would be great so would an athletic wing. I just don't think it is obvious that we don't need another guard.

Its like I've been saying from the start. We just have different opinions about the skill level of our players. That's fine. I expect big things from Herndon and Dalton next year. Esspecially Herndon. He is really going to come into his own next year and be a leader of this team. Again my opinion, not trying to force anyone to share it.

wow this board stayed hush hush on the reason's why he bolted.....still curious with only 4 reg season and 1 post season games left??

I think he was hanging with Matt Sellers wife.

And we all know the influence she has on players quitting the team toward the end of the season.

**Somebody keep that bitch away from Herndon next year, please!

Not sure of the incident that caused TW to leave. It was sort of reported on a cheyenne sports show that "He ran out of chances". They were reporting that they did not have enough info to actually report anything but felt comfortable enough to say that he ran out of chances. Take that for whatever it is worth.
