Top 25 Watch

Voted for Wyoming (AP):
Geoff Grammer (Albuquerque) -- #23 (up two)
Mark Berman (Roanoke) -- #24 (new)
Kevin Lyttle (Austin) -- #24 (down one)
John Feinstein (Wash DC) -- #24 (new)
Ron Morris (Columbia, SC) -- #25 (new)

Notables who didn't vote for Wyoming:
Ben Frederickson (ex-CST)
Chris Murray (Reno)
Brian Howell (Boulder Daily Camera)
Dick Vitale
Jon Wilner (San Jose)

Cal is getting votes right by us, It's critical we win that game and that will also be the game that sends us into the AP top 25 as long as Cal keeps winning.

I think handling Denver and just leaving SMU with a win puts us Top 30, just on the outside of the Top 25.

Cal week is what gets us in.

I still cannot figure out for the life of me how CSU has an RPI of 45, and yet UW only has an RPI of 50? lol. CSU hasn't played anyone. The Rams record is fabricated. They barely eeked out a two point win against UCSB. Also, if their RPI is higher than but their record is the same as Wyoming, why are they not receiving votes? The entire voting system is biased and flawed. RPI must be figured by drawing straws. Lastly, it is too funny that Howell did not give UW a vote. He must still be upset about that spanking...lol.

It's probably mostly because they've played away from Ft. Collins. The SMU game, especially if we win, should help us a lot.

RPI & polls are one of my pet peeves. They are all based on where they are ranked to begin the season. Guess who gets the top rankings - the P5 - the media favorites - the espn favorites.

RPI is not at all based on where you begin since it's purely a mathematical formula. It is 50% your record, 25% your SOS, and 25% your opponents' SOS. The formula the selection committee uses gooses it a bit to give a bonus for road/neutral wins but it is a blank slate to begin each season.

I love how BIG each week is feeling this year. We have an old rival Denver team that I'd love to thrash this week and then follow it up with our first road statement game against a solid SMU. All of these games are huge for our march towards the top 25. Not just that but getting into the top 25 and more importantly the NCAA tourney is a must statement for our program THIS year. Every game we play this year will be a BIG one as this is tourney resume material that is putting our program back on the map.

I want to get there, and stay there.

Ok, what is SOS based on? I believe it is based on rankings per week. It does start to even out after about 10 or so games, but it is all based on pre-season rankings.

Well I really do think this is a critical year for us to have that sort of presence in college basketball. We are finally loaded up and guns a blazin. Let's take on all comers and show them what the best of the mountain west looks like. We really have to make our run now and restore our proud tradition this year so its here to stay for all the Shyatt era. Look at what Fisher did for SDSU? I think Shyatt can do even better since he's the better coach :D
