As I wrote on Sunday in the blog, 63 underclassmen. Some universities could overcome this, but we are not Florida State or USC.. so we are forced to play the waiting game while these guys mature into division 1 athletes physically and mentally.
I enjoyed the blog, good stuff. And I know the numbers are accurate. But...
I am not / was not, looking for Wyoming to be the MWC champs this year in football (my prediction was 4 wins, and 6 years to right the ship - which I was chastised for - LMAO). But the level to which we have sunk is just astonishing. We are not even competitive against arguably the 2 worst opponents we have faced (at home) in a long, long time. Not even competitive, as in we were out-classed at every aspect of both games.
Good 'ol Bohly should have been recruiting D1 athletes that are physically and mentally able to compete all along. A few projects, or "Derek Cooke" types are fine...but when the roster is full of them, that won't get it done in Wyoming (and most D1 FBS programs) like it would have at NDSU. My opinion only - but the recruit and develop for 3 - 4 years thing may not work in Wyoming. Paul Roach believed that - his rosters were full of JC's (part thanks to Erickson). Tiller knew that as well. And further, times have changed. If a player is on a roster for 4 or 5 years these days in D1 FBS - it is damn near a miracle. The transfer game, the instant - gratification generation, the fuck-it-I-quits, etc., have wrecked havoc.
