Tom Burman is such a joke

From the university of Wyoming department of music website:

Basketball Pep Band

Volunteer pep bands perform at Men's and Women's home basketball games. An audition is held during the fall to select two 20-member full time bands (Brown and Gold Band); however, more performers are welcome to play at the games. The full time members are paid $20 per game. The basketball pep bands are open to any UW student.

Each year a 29-member pep band is selected to perform at the Mountain West Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. If a UW team is selected for the NCAA tournament, the pep band would travel with the team to support the Cowboys and/or Cowgirls. The tournament bands are determined by attendance points at regular season basketball games.
They have them in a little slot on those bleachers on the floor behind the hoop now. Not even room for more than I said

Well you must be right then! Certainly more right than the music department that forms the band or former members of the group. /s

K I’ll count them next time they are there. And the point still stands. Burman sucks and has no ability to think outside the box to solve any problem. Three games in a row no band.

Good to see they're getting paid now!

Haha...this thread got so funny! The headline is: People hate Burman so much that it warps their ability to perceive things...and I'm here for it!

It is interesting that when a coach or boss or whoever reveal their failings, those who want them gone begin to look to other, and usually less egregious failings, as the reason to hate them. Burman is a great example of this. He has failed to get good coaches in charge of the various athletic teams at UW...that is what he can't do. Rather than be laser focused on that critique...we sit here and discuss the tangential minutiae of the athletic program as if any of it moves the needle. If Wyoming replaces Burman with somebody that gets every minor decision correct, and they still can't hire anybody better than Craig Bohl...we will all learn to hate him just like we can't stand Burman.

Is there any other AD in the country that could survive such abject failure?? We are such a joke as a university

In my opinion, it is the apathy of the UW alumni and fanbase that has ultimately led to the lack of urgency in the athletic department. Most alumni and casual fans, who make up the vast majority of the fanbase, do not have very high standards for UW athletics. As such, there is very little pressure on the UW administration to improve.

If enough alumni and fans (fans=money) started demanding better results, you would see more changes occur. I would be willing to bet that most of the fans and alumni that Burman interacts with are either satisfied or ambivalent about the current state of UW athletics. Fans like those on this message board are so few and far between that we are probably labeled "that crazy guy" by the UW Athletic Department.

My main issues are:

1. The winning percentages of the mens basketball program in conference games since he became athletic director is 37%. SImply atrocious.
2. The winning percentage of the football program in conference games since he became athletic direct 41%. Slightly above atrocious.
3. The split of the MWC (which separated Wyoming from long time rival CSU and Utah State while Wyoming was not included in the new Pac 12 and don't think Wyoming would not have accepted an invitation. The split said volumes about how the rest of the schools in the conference view the program. It was a referendum on the job he has done.

Finally, his salary is $551,000 per year for these results. No other school in the country would pay him to do this job, yet UW is paying him more than any other school in the MWC. That doesn't make any sense.

The band has never been at games during a break for as long as I can remember. Even in the “glory years” of the late 80s & early 2000’s. The only issue I have with where they are sitting now is the huge gap it leaves where there are no seats right behind the visiting bench and basket. What the heck are they going to do with that section now? I would hope they put in some seating for students or something. Even a cheap fix, like rows of bleachers would be better than leaving it empty. I don’t know if this all falls under Burman’s responsibilities, but you’d think someone in athletics would want to do something.
