To avoid derailing a thread, 5-6 years? Really?

I personally do not think we will ever hit Boise's status. Everyone wishes we would, but so do all programs. I think even in our great times, we will still have down years, our history shows that.
When were at our best I think you would see a run of seasons like: 6-6, 10-3, 11-2, 5-6, 9-4, 4-6-1, 5-7, 8-4, 6-6, 6-5, 10-2, 8-5, 8-3, 7-4, tot: 103-63-1. Yes, that was the 80's and 90's. In today's football you are looking at 10 bowls in that time instead of four.
When we were considered Nationally prominent in the 50's to 69, we still had a fair share of losses or ties: 9-1, 10-0, 7-2-1, 5-4, 5-4-1, 6-4, 8-3, 10-0, 4-3-3, 8-3, 9-1, 8-2, 6-1-2, 5-5, 6-4, 6-2-2, 6-4, 10-1, 10-1, 7-3, 6-4. Tot: 151-52-9. We had 5 bowls in that time, today, probably 17. And to point out, our conferences were SO amazing back then that several great years we never got a bowl, 1949; 9-1, no bowl, 51; 7-2-1, no bowl, 56; 10-0, no bowl, 59; 9-1, no bowl, 60; 8-2, no bowl; 68; 7-3, no bowl.
It's no wonder coaches like Bowden Wyatt and Bob Devaney never wanted to stay here.

So even at our best, we've never hit Boise's numbers, not saying it shouldn't be something to strive for, but if that is how you base success at WYO, be disappointed pretty much every year.

If Bohl is our new Paul Roach, which I think he can be, then I will disagree. Paul had to hang them up because he was getting too old to coach. And, he was also Athletic Director...but in his 4 years at Wyoming he won 11, 10, 5, an d 9 games. He had the Pokes ranked as high as #10 in either 1987 or 1988 (I was in school, but can't remember the year). The key is to build and then build on success.

In regards to Boise....Boise is a very good program, but build much of their success in a lesser conference. They haven't come in and dominated the MWC like they did the WAC. Paul Roach did this with tougher competition.

Also, bowl games were very scare in the 1940's and 1950's. Today a bag of chips and a 6 win season will get any team a bowl. And who knows if those coaches wanted to stay here or not. They left for bigger programs like all the Boise coaches before the one they have now did and like all of Wyoming's successful coaches....sans Paul Roach.

The Pokes can climb to the level of Boise, but it won't be an easy road.

Go Pokes!!

Among active Non-P5 schools....Boise has played in 3 major bowl games, and won 3. Hawaii has played in 1. Northern Illinois has played in 1. UCF has played in 1, and won. That is a total of 4 schools outta 50+ that have played in major bowl, and only on 4 occasions did that underdog win. 3 of them by Boise State, including last year in which Harsin took a very young and rebuilding team and won a NY6 bowl game.

3 major bowl victories. That will be hard to equal for any non-P5.

Again, we're beyond counting chickens before they've hatched. There is always hope, but that's hardly a rock solid argument. Go search through threads from spring/summer 2012 and you will find similar threads to this one, with expectations and guarantees of top-tier success.

Like BP keeps saying...let's see Wyoming get invited to and win a few bowl games before declaring that Wyoming will in fact be the next BSU.

UW had a moment of optimism in 2014 (Fresno), but also had its bad moments under Craig Bohl (biggest beat down in WMS history on Senior Night). I did not walk away from last season convinced that Bohl glory is a given.

We hit # 10 in 1988 then days later we got drilled by the Houston Cougars at the Astrodome in ESPN, 27-10.

I agree that bowls were sparse. But I'm sure that in the years we were 9-1; 10-0; 8-2, etc. I could find several teams with worse records in bowls, which goes to show, WYO has really never been looked at as legit.
