thoughts against DU tonight

It's crazy that JJ is coming off the bench still but that is a HUGE spark for us in the 2nd unit. :fuel:
I said it before but I really do love the depth of this team. We need to have 2 stand out guys for us and then others need to find their most effective roles. They can get buckets from a few dudes which is nice.
Call me crazy, but I like the rotation as is. If we put all our best scorers in the starting lineup, its a repeat of a few years ago when we had ZERO bench.

Great win. Wished we'd take the air out more when we're up by 20 and not huck up quick threes

Agreed on the threes. This team settles for way too many threes.

Something I thought was interesting from the postgame presser.....Edwards said he almost put Adams in the starting lineup tonight. Personally, I'd guess AAG sits if that happens eventually. Puts a shot creator (Adams) with a shooter (JMac) in the starting lineup and a shot creator (James) with a shooter (AAG) on the second unit

I knew Adams was hurt but didn't realize he had suffered a broken rib from that fall at Montana.

I feel like as long as JJ keeps getting the minutes he had been he could easily lead the Pokes in scoring.

If Adams starts getting more minutes I think he could end up as the top scorer both of those guys are a really nice spark.

I watched the game replay. Everyone looked good except Lieberman and Gorski, surprise surprise.

-I get the feeling if Barnes had better hands he would be an asset. Too bad.
-Adams is the shiz. Love him already.
-James is the man.
-JMac - ice cold. Hopefully he breaks out of the slump.
-I think Naughton needs more minutes. Not sure who to take them from, though.
-Herndon looks all around better this year to me.

Agreed all the way around, Herndon's growth and improvement might be one of if not the biggest key to how well this team does this year.

James and Adams are no doubt our most talented offensive players, with Herndon right behind, except Herndon can't create as well as JJ or Lou.

If Dalton could find some way to put on about 20 pounds he could be a scary player, he's already got a high basketball IQ with great length and fair/decent handles and shooting ability.

Jmac I think just needs to settle down and not try to be "the man". I feel like he's forced a bunch of shots this season, just needs to focus on keeping the flow of the offense going and hitting shots in rhythm and he'll be fine. We need him playing within himself, less wild drives hoping for a foul, leading to turnovers.

Naughton has shown some real nice touch with both hands in the post, but still looks raw at times. Hopefully with experience he'll turn into a force, but so far this year his minutes have been limited.

Liebs and Gorski? Oof and oof. If they aren't making shots, they're liabilities, esp Lieberman. Both are below average defenders due to lack of size/speed/athleticism, both have less than stellar handles, and little to no drive and create ability. Both are great role players, and Aka Gorski has shown the potential to go off in scoring on any given night if his shot is dropping, but lately it's been ugly. Liebs hasn't contributed in a big way yet this year, but if he can keep turnovers down and hit an open shot here or there he'll fill the role the pokes need.

nice to hear this James kid is panning out well, can't wait to see his progress, where's Jmac so far?? being a senior too much for him so far?

I think Jmac is doing pretty well as a senior leader. He hasn't been shooting that well lately, but he's had some decent games. He went 16-16 at the foul stripe in the loss to Pacific, but only shot 1-9 on threes, then was 1-7 against Cal. Just needs to settle down and play his game, not try to do too much, and he'll be fine. If Jmac could be our 2nd/3rd/4th offensive option depending who's on the floor, we'll be a lot better off than if he's trying to carry the load himself.

Is it my imagination, or does it just seem like there are far fewer open 3 looks than last year, forcing hurried shots? Edward's offensive nuances maybe?

I guess personally, I feel like we've had a good deal of open looks, just have missed a ton of them. Maybe sometimes it seems like we shoot hurried shots because of the more up-tempo pace, but I haven't seen a ton of bad shots come from the pace of play. I feel like the forced shots I've seen are more, in Jmac's case, just trying to get going when he's been shooting poorly, and thus maybe pressing more than he needs to to get a shot off, but in general I don't feel like there's been many bad shots throughout the natural flow of the offense.
There have been some times where things have stagnated a bit and maybe some tough shots have come from such instances, but that happened A LOT under Shyatt, due to the slow down tempo. It's just that we had one of the more talented ball players we've seen in awhile bail us out time after time with fantastic shots, or drive and dishes leading to open 3's or wide open dunks. I think ol Josh Adams had a lot more to do with the success of our offense with the slow tempo than some would realize.
