This Wyoming football team has a chance to be really good, IMHO

I’m optimistic, but after last years coaching debacle I have to withhold judgement for a few games.
My biggest concern last year was totally changing the offense. I think it helps when Wyoming is different than what everyone else does. That said, we don't have those major changes this year, and I just love what I see. Time will tell. Knock on wood for health.

I think the O takes a big step forward. I've rewatched a lot of the games and definitely preparation issues. When you get past that, there were quite few instances of failed execution. The plays got the matchips they wanted but bad throws, pressure too fast, poor throws, poor routes, etc. I think the execution will be better which will make the play calling/o look better.

D is tough to tell. Injuries up front and a potentially shaky secondary have me nervous. The O is going to have to score this year.

Beat a terrible Akron team that you should beat.
Don't lose at home to another FCS school.
Then, I will be able to gauge my optimism.
This. So much this.

We lose to Akron or UNI, we are in DEEP TROUBLE. UNI is no where near the team they used to be. Akron has me nervous - as they beat Toledo and Eastern last year at home. I have so little faith in this staff that I cannot be optimistic.

My biggest concern is the coaching staff. I believe this is the most talented offense since 2018. I really Anderson and the tight ends and receivers. I also think we will have more depth at running back. Hopefully the snapping and overall team organization will be improved.

The team seemed completely ill prepared coming into the season last year. I hope Sawvill leaned from this and is much better this year.

That ASU game still pisses me off. Not necessarily because we lost but because we looked so ill prepared. Sawvel looked confused/worried/embarrassed every time the camera would cut to him. I knew immediately that it was going to be a long season and that Sawvel was not the right hire.

In a recent interview, Sawvel said a player came to him after the ASU game and told him, "I didn't think they were going to be that good". That is 100% on the coaching staff. They did not have them ready to play and did not mount any sort of response once they were punched in the face. Instead, they tucked their tail and looked relieved just to get the game over with as quickly as possible.

I like most of our players...I think we have more talent then we did last year, especially on offense. Theoretically, that should result in a better team and more wins. But I have significant concerns that Sawvel can translate that additional talent into any positive results. I am very worried about the Akron game because of this.

A loss to Akron would be more than enough for me to check out for the remainder of the season. Last season was torture. I eventually stopped watching the games and only checking scores the following day. I'll do the same if we open with a loss to Akron.

Said this last season, I hope its not the case this season- Sawvell acts and sounds a lot like Nathaniel Hackett in his less than one complete season as the Broncos head coach.
