"This is the best team I've had since I arrived in Laramie"

Quote from Dave Christensen at the beginning of the year at a CJC function.

He also talked about shocking Nebraska (almost) and winning the Mountain and going to an upper tier MWC bowl.

He mentioned that we finally had depth on both sides of the ball.

Well, if this is the best team he's had and he thinks this crap football is anywhere near competitive with others in the MWC, we are in huge trouble...and I think we are.

Dave explained away the early butt kicking to Boise by pointing to the lack of talent and the need to recruit and build. Well, we are five years in and getting trounced worse than we were at the beginning of his tenure.

We are so far behind CSU, Boise and even UNM and UNLV that it will take a long time to recover...if we ever recover. And DC ain't the guy to get it done. We all know it. Burman knows it. The question is, do we run out the clock on DC over time, or cut our losses? If everyone in Laramie is going to be consistent, they need to pull a Sternberg and cut our losses. December 2013 will say alot about Burman and UW and its commitment to football. If they are serious about getting back on top, I am in. If they want to pantywaist it, I am out - football season tickets, CJC donations and all - until they signal that my investment in them will yield a positive return.

I do think that both of our BBall teams will erase some of the bitterness, but Burman had better not count on the gloss of basketball success covering the stench of a pile of crap our football teams has become.

Of course Burman knows football success is important, and sees the same things we see.

He runs the entire athletic department, though...he doesn't recruit football players nor coach them. And he's not a miracle worker. DC was, by all consensus, a good hire. It's gone south now. The firing of DC will not be entirely up to Burman. He can advocate it, but the decision will be made at a higher level, and has to do with finances as well as wins and losses.

These are realities. They are also realities that 80 or so other FBS schools face...so neither can Burman simply snap his fingers and create a pot of money to make a coach firing painless and then go out and easily insert some magical other coach to solve all these problems.

I read on here that some think we can not afford to fire CDC. Can we afford to keep him?

Just crunching a few numbers I come up with this:
Keeping in mind the home attendance after the CSU blowout and assuming it is a continuing trend....

At $31 per ticket, which is a number I just pulled out of my......um......ear. If attendance drops by 8000 per home game, that takes $1,488,000 right off the top. If we are not a respected opponent we also won't get any ESPN TV cash. Lets not forget about lost concessions, lower revenue from athletic apparel sales, and last but not least...... lower recruit quality.

I don't feel that CDC is even trying any more. A complete lack of creative play calling. I don't think it was a bad idea going for it on 4th that time against Fresno, but I think the way he did it was to shove it into the fans faces that booed (I booed) when the offense left the field. He should have done it with the starting offense on the field, not the punting team, once he convinced Fresno that we weren't going to punt.
My wife and I left the stadium right after that debacle.

I think Christensen has always had a higher level of contempt for the fans than the average Head Coach, but I think he's hiding it less and less with each passing game this season.

I honestly won't be surprised at all if he negotiates an exit of his own volition.
