This is Sick

I know I am in the significant minority on this, but I just cannot wrap my head around why people feel the need to interact with social media.

If you want to be more anxious, more depressed, and more pessimistic, then social media is for you. Otherwise, delete that shit and talk to real people in real life.

I wonder if it is a contractual requirement for our head coaches to have social media accounts or if they are choosing to have them out of their own free will.

Isn’t a message board a form of social media?

A lot to digest here:

Social media is good if you want to keep in touch with friends that move across country though FB has turned into more ads then seeing my friends post stuff.

Recruits see social media and like having a coach on it. I think Jay was not in a great headspace with Lou passing and he lashed out which is out of character for him on social media. UW needs to teach coaches how to control their algorithms and they will avoid some stuff like this

They are.

Personally, I just see them as fundamentally different from modern social media platforms. Message boards tend to focus on in-depth topic based discussions and attract users with shared interests while modern social media tends to be more personality-driven short-form takes on anything under the sun. I feel like message boards lend themselves to more long-term community building whereas modern social media tends to be more about follower driven popularity. These are just my opinions based on my experiences, but I think the research available backs up a lot of these feelings.

Ive always appreciated message boards for the reason like you that they focus on a particular topic of interest to me.

I’ve never had an Instagram/snapchat/tiktok because they seem to me to focus more on the persons themselves (somewhat narcissistically to me) and I just have never had interest in that.

But I’m probably just dating myself. Pretty clear that few to no 20 year olds are actively participating in message boards outside of Reddit.
