Since I've been in the business world for 40 years, this is not how it's done. A CEO or other high administrative position isn't given a contract without any stipulations. For example, a stipulation that sales or profits reach a certain level or the contract is voidable. Or if the stock price drops.....whatever. The fact that coaches are given 5 year deals with zero expectations is nuts. I've never seen this kind of garbage in the business world. Now, if the CEO is considered a must have, like a Nick Saban, then your negotiating power is somewhat limited. But to give the reigns to a guy who has never done it before and write a contract like he is Nick Saban is just gross incompetence. Unless Sawvel was getting head coaching offers I wasn't aware of, Burman was in the catbird seat and didn't know it or didn't care.
