The Reason(s) Fresno Beats UW.

The Reasons Fresno Beats us in ABQ.

1. We don't have Joe Glenn's Defense.
2. We still have Joe Glenn's offensive production
3. Fresno almost beat #3 Cincinnati and Wisconsin on the road.
4. They have the nations leading rusher.

The reason Wyoming beats Fresno.

1. Fresno (like UCLA) does not care about the game and is not excited to play lowly Wyoming in a crappy bowl game and is embarrassed to be there.
2. Wyoming fans outnumber Fresno fans are excited as hell and give UW a boost, while Fresno fans are at home watching the game embarrassed they have to play us.

Fresno is an underrated team every year. If we had Glenn's defense even with his offense we'd have a chance in this game. But the way our D has gotten worse (just like I predicted) I don't see us winning this game unless Fresno is just completely disinterested. It may be a high scoring game though.

How do you figure our defense is worse this year than last?
We've given up 327 points this year total to a MUCH tougher schedule than we've played in a LONG time. Compare that to 333 a year ago, or 311 in 2007, and there really isn't much of a difference. This year's defense also has many more takeaways than the one last year.

In your opening line, you talk about "The Reasons Fresno Beats us in ABQ." In order to be a part of "us," you actually have to be a Cowboy fan - not a Joe Glenn fan - but a Wyoming Cowboys fan. Now I am not usually one of those holier than thou - "you have to agree with me and wear brown and gold colored glasses or you're not a true fan" types - but you didn't even try to represent real reasons why we might have a shot at winning the game. Hell, your thoughts could just have easily been posted by a CSU, BYU or Utah fan. Your hatred for these coaches and these Cowboys has blurred your vision to the point that you don't take stock of the fact that we have a hell of a good, young QB that can flat make things happen. With a little time to prepare, we have looked really, really good (ask Utah) - which reflects good coaching and the potential for a hell of a surprise for the Bulldogs. Our defense may not be Joe Glenn's defense (by the numbers they are actually better), but they are still pretty darned good and fun to watch. Our kicker has ice in his veins, our running backs have the potential for big plays and our VERY young team has shown resilience and an ability to come back and win close (and not so close - SDSU) games.

EPS - if you were a true fan, you'd stop with the shots, look forward to a bowl game and cheer for some pretty damned good kids who have made great strides facing a pretty tough schedule. And for all of Joe Glenn's greatness - I would guess that DC would never lose to Bowling Green like good ol' Joe. Talk about embarrasing...

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Give it a rest EPS.

When Fresno beat Cinci - they weren't #3 and Wisky was down to what, their 3rd string QB? Even so, they gave them a game - but we only rolled over in the BYU game, which was VERY disappointing. TCU did what they did to us...to everybody. No matter, EPS doesn't care about rational, thoughful posts - he just wants to assassinate a bunch of 18-20 something year old kids and coaches that he clearly hates...

When was it ever Joe Glenn's defense? Glenn did nothing more than time punts, and make public appearances...don't get me wrong - I like the guy, but if you think he did any real coaching you're fooling yourself. It was Breske and English's D - one of them is still here.

I agree with you that it seems our defense is getting worse, but it's hard to say why. I did see an interview with Grinch talking about a bend don't break philosophy, which would mean a LOT more yards being put up. I also believe English doesn't blitz near enough and QB's have way too much time, and there have also been a lot injuries on D. But as it was pointed out, points on the board are what matter and we've held opponents to less points than last year while playing a tougher schedule.

Thank you. As dominant as Wyoming's D was at times under Glenn, it had started to struggle in the last few years. So, EPS, you predicted nothing here. And thank goodness for the takeaways, we'll need some against Fresneck.

... and elementary school dates.

I think the defense was actually better this year than in many years. We held Air force to 10 points at their place. We held Utah to 23 and csewe to 16. New mexico got only 6. We kept sds from scoring for 1/2 the 3d qtr and all of the 4th. The only teams we gave it up big were against tcu, texas, and byu.

Because of our non conference schedule against Texas and Colorado, it makes the stats look worse than they are. 2006 was the last year our defense was really dominant. Even then, we gave up 56 or so to byu. Plus, the league was really strong this year. The top 3 were all ranked at 1 time or another. But I do think it will be hard to stop Fresno. They almost always have an explosive offense. It will be a big challenge for us.

why do people reply to EPS i guarantee he loves replies if you dont reply he will stop
Yup. I'm not feeding the trolls here. Although EPS is more tollerable to me than the WAC trolls.

The defense was better in the Glenn days, shit if we didnt turn the bowl over seven times a game every game imagine how low the point totals would have been. That being said, I think 6-6 in the MWC is pretty even with 8-4 in the WAC, could be a close game.

I still don't understand how the Glenn defense was really better. We never played a schedule like this one under Glenn. Also, having Wendling in the secondary made a huge difference. We haven't had a difference maker like that on defense since he graduated. Sure Fletcher's pretty awesome, but he's played on a sprained MCL for how long? 2 months?

I like how EPS always gives himself an out. He starts a thread saying basically, "get ready for a 4-8 season," then brags how his prediction was right because he said, "well, you might win five games if this or that."
Now he posts ""Reasons Fresno beats UW" but then gives himself an out, just in case the Cowboys win. C'mon man, man up and take a stand, none of this wish-washy crap.
Now on to your pathetic reasons.

First of all, if Glenn was still the coach we wouldn't even be having this discussion. The season would be over.
If Glenn was still the coach we wouldn't have Carta-Samuels, Shamiel Gary, Alvester Sylvester, Tooley, may or may not have Watts, etc. (I didn't include Luke Ruff because he was a Glenn recruit and DC honored the scholly offer.)
If Glenn was still the coach turnovers would likely still be a problem. Turnovers were a problem that last three years of Glenn's tenure. What makes you think this year would be any different?
Special teams were much improved this year and actually was the difference in at least two games. Watts is a find at place kicker. Also, having McCoy employ the rugby kick added yardage to this year's punting statistics. How many times did we see the ball hit in from of the receiver and bounce over his head for an additionaly 20 or more yards?
Because of this year's strength and conditioning program, we were able to take on what Kevin McKinney described in a radio interview, the toughest schedule in UW history and we survived. There were a few injuries here and there, but other than Tooley nothing major. There were never more than a couple starters on the bench during any given game. Glenn's teams were always plagued with injuries.
I don't really like bagging on Coach Glenn because I like him and he was good for Wyoming. However, unlike EPS, I like to deal in facts.
