The key to success

I think Josh Allen is worth about three wins by himself. QB play has been so much better and, as mentioned above, a lot of it is his ability to run.

I don't have the numbers to compare, but it seems like this team is consistently winning the field position battle. A staple of Bohl's approach.
And moving the ball on teams we struggled to in previous years.

And Ethan Woods planting the ball inside the 10 on punts.

going out on a limb but I truly think Josh is quite a bit better than even Brett Smith was, just sayin, Josh truly could be a consideration for NFL scouts to take a look at, but I thought that "kinda" with Brett too, look where we got there, lol

I mentioned this summer that two numbers had to change in order for this team to be successful: 3rd down offense and 3rd down defense

Offense
2015 - .333 (113th)
2016 - .420 (T-58th)

Defense
2015 - .456 (112th)
2016 - .425 (91st)

Any other numbers stand out to you as the key to our turnaround?

Rushing defense and scoring defense are always good indicators. With caveats of looking at passing defense to determine if one or both of the former are on the flukish side.

What has made this team so much better is ST and turnover ratio. Defense has a long way to go but is clearly making strides. This is such a fun team to watch on both sides of the ball.

No doubt about it.

I don't think Allen is better than Smith was. I think Allen is better coached and playing a non spread offense under Bohl we may have seen a completely different professional result for Smith.

The coaching staff is that much better now then it has been I the past.

Josh isn't as mobile as Brett, but he's mobile enough to hurt people. Allen's definitely got more physical skills: 6'5" and a huge arm.

No offense to Brett, but what Wyoming quarterback in the history of the program has the height, strength, cannon arm, quick delivery, accuracy, and mobility of Allen? There are a few that have one or two things that are better than Allen, but nobody I can remember has the same package of skills. No offense to Josh or Randy.

There are several Wyoming quarterbacks with a better quarterback brain than Josh has now, and more experience playing the position, but I'm confident Josh will develop that.

I don't disagree on the physical aspects at all. I just believe that Allen has a much better coaching staff around him and we can see the incredible difference it has made.

I totally agree. DC was good at getting freshman ready to play in that circus show right away. A lot of that is the simplicity of the spread offense.

Smith didn't have the staff that Allen does, and it's not even close.

Walwork and Welniak had the staff. Smith didn't.

The thing is that there is so much improvement going on across the whole team very quickly, that many of the stats are skewed.
How is that skewed? Wouldn't huge improvement be more accurate?
Not if you take into account the final quarter in Lincoln, interceptions as an example.

Can honestly say its just been a massive team effort. Work was put in. The D has different guys step up at all kinds of moments throughout the game. Very much a by committee attack. Allen and Hill have been better then any QB/RB tandem the team has seen in a long time + Wick. The O line is great, they might even have depth. Special teams are finally looking like they're in the top half of conference. Coaching/play-calling have gotten better. You could go down the whole check list and its gonna look like + :thumb: from the past years hell even the past 5 weeks.

The team plays with fire :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: That's all WYO fans want and to get fun W's with :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: :fuel: :phat:

edit post note- I forgot to talk about the WR's play and our TE play. Terrific and classic Pokes style. Our history has been throwing to quality WR's even in lean years when we can't get em the rock as easy.

So isn't that "skewed" the other way? Making us look even better if you take that out?

It would, but you can't take them out. They are part of the record.

Never said we should take it out, I said our stats aren't skewed
