The Josh Allen trampoline effect, or the lack of one?

With the massive amount of attention that was paid to Josh Allen when he was in Laramie and then even more exposure when he was selected in the first round by Buffalo in the NFL, and then even more awareness currently with Allen being one of the NFLs most known players, did anyone expect Wyoming recruiting to improve as the result of all of the Allen mania?

I mean, our average recruiting score has gone up ever so slightly, and I believe our last recruiting class was our best statistically in the modern recruiting era.

We also do seem to be getting a lot of defensive talent with all the defensive players we've sent to the NFL, although to Bohl's credit, he's great at developing defensive talent and that's his wheelhouse.

BUT....as for offensive talent, I think it became very clear after Allen left that he was a generational talent that transcended coaching.

I think some Cowboys fans tend to live in a bubble, but in the greater CFB world, our offensive struggles even in JA17's last year were heavily scrutinized, and in the years following it's been no secret that we have an antiquated offense that has stunted the development of multiple QBs and WRs.

Would you come to Wyoming as a talented WR or QB with offers from multiple other schools, knowing the reputation of our offensive system and how much we fail at developing offensive talent? I wouldn't.

Points taken.

As a general rule, the talented player with multiple options doesn't come here for any position. I guess if the multiple offers are from mid to low tier MWC schools we might win out... But how talented is that recruit?

The Josh Allen prototype here at UW is a once in a lifetime thing....i still wish he woulda had better receivers to have gotten the ball too and Also wish Brian Hill woulda stayed 1 more year with him for a better 1,2 punch....its fun seeing him in nfl, just hope he doesn't get hurt

I can recall hearing rumors out of Laramie how a JUCO transfer QB was tearing up the first teamers during practices . Allen's talent apparently was obvious before he ever played a down for Wyoming , even then however he did not get a chance to play right away. Wyoming and Bohl were more lucky than good in finding him.

Consider for a moment that I believe we played Cam Cameron at QB instead of Allen during his first season with the Pokes.

I remember it too well .Allen actually came in for Cameron who was injured in the first game against North Dakota. He started the 2d game against Eastern Michigan and was absolutely carrying the team on his back when his collarbone was broken by a cheap shot (they held him up in order to get a better shot from other players who were not in on the stop) at the end of a scramble. Maybe it was a blessing as it gave Allen the chance not to play behind a terrible o-line while he healed.

Yes - the Eastern Michigan home game will never escape my memory. It went from this sucks (QB is out), to holy shit we have a superhuman backup QB (Allen marches the team down the field for a touchdown on the opening drive), to oh no (Allen decides not to slide and lowers his shoulder into half the Eastern Michigan team and leaves the game early in the first hald) to that was the worst QB performance I have ever seen (Nick Smith proceeds to throw for 0 yards for the rest of the game with several throws straight into the ground).

I remember Allen being injured during the Easter Michigan game as well, however, a "cheap shot" was the last thing that happened on the play that injured him and put him out for the year. Allen was charging hard up the field, lowered his shoulder, and was met by a collision from a linebacker, the hit immediately fractured his collarbone. There was nothing dirty about it.

Didn't strike me as dirty either....pretty typical football play as I remember it. The threshold for a dirty play can't just be if somebody got hurt.

It wasn't dirty. Allen lowered his shoulder as if he was wearing running back pads...which he was not.

I was able to locate video of the game and you are right. The game I was remembering was actually his last year when Wyoming played Air Force when he suffered a separated AC joint which caused him to miss a couple of games at the end of the season.
