The heck with Dave Christensen

I had high hopes for Dave Christensen at Wyoming and I thought he had potential. When he was fired, I wished him and his family nothing but the best. I knew he would land on his feet somewhere, and I was hoping he would do good anywhere he went.

Now I don't care. He is such a classless ass.

Q: Any reservations about being an assistant coach again after five years as a head coach?

A: “Absolutely none. It was a great opportunity to be a head coach. We did some really good things. We took Wyoming to two bowl games and then beat our rival four out of five years, so I think we’re able to get some things done there. But my biggest thing is I’m a competitor and I loved coaching at Missouri because I was coaching the highest-level players in college football and I wanted the opportunity to do that again. Now I have that opportunity.”

He just took a dig at every single player he recruited at Wyoming. Terrible.

I read that this morning too. such arrogance. I think the Utah media and the Utah fans are going to eat him alive. He didn't realize how good he had it in Wyoming. We are a very forgiving fan base and gave him the benefit of the doubt on multiple occasions. That crap isn't going to fly in Salt Lake City.

thus far, the consensus has been that this was not a good move by the University of Utah. I don't know, maybe Dave will do good. But after reading some of these comments, it really was a dig at a lot of the University of Wyoming, the Mountain West Conference, and our players. pretty unfortunate if you ask me.

in fact, a lot of my neighbors and friends have reached out to me to ask my opinion. A lot of them are Utah fans. I told them the truth. Which is, Brett Smith won more games for us than coaching did.

Frankly, I'd be happy if UW refunded me for part of my season ticket for every loss this guy put on the table. He obviously didn't want to be here. He couldn't recruit (said so himself indirectly). He should refund every dime of his salary.

He was lucky at Missouri. If you look at his record prior to the last 4 years at Mizzou, it wasn't that great. He was propped up by a few good players and ended up getting a HC position because of it. Mizzou's offense looks better without him these days.

I'm tempted to guy buy copies of that article and mail copies to the Wyoming and Utah AD. I can understand taking a dig at the AFA coach (he is an adult, he can take it), at the state and uw after being fired, but taking a stab at the players HE RECRUITED is completely classless.

Wyovanian was right. We should have handed him walking papers 10 minutes after the Cal-Poly game. Joe Glenn was a far better head coach than Dave Christensen.

What a joke.

This surprises me none at all. DC has been an arrogant jerk since day 1. He was an embarrassment and we are extremely lucky to have Coach Bohl.

Every time I watch NDSU and watch Bohl on the sideline, I get more excited. Bohl's players play for him! I don't think we can say the same thing at all as to DC.

Two words guys "coach speak" I don't think he meant it as a slight to his old players but wanted to talk up the players Utah is now recruiting.

Although I do think he will get a shot at more 3 to 4 star recruits then he ever did at Wyoming mostly because of the PAC 12 label.

There is no other way of interpreting the quote other than as slight to his old players. By stating that he coached the "highest-level players" at Missouri and that he will be able to do that again at Utah he is clearly stating that the players he recruited to Wyoming are not "highest level players."

Good riddance to that cancer.

I'm glad to see him gone now too. Can you really deny what he said though? How many recruits did we steal from teams with offers from bcs schools? I'm not going to take the time to look it up but I bet less then ten total of his players had offers at bcs schools. He will get better recruits at Utah then at Wyoming and that's just part of the hierarchy of the current college football landscape.

Christensen on Utah's move to the PAC-12 compared to Wyoming's program:

“I thought at the time when they did it, it was a great move because I knew they were heads and tails above where we were at that time at Wyoming and that we weren’t ever going to catch them from a commitment level."

I don't care who we did or did not steal recruits from. Wyoming CLEARLY had some of the highest level players while he was here. Brett Smith is BETTER than any QB Christensen has ever coached anywhere (yes better than Daniel).

Other Highest Level Players Christensen has had and coached at WYOMING: Brett Smith, Robert Herron, Marqueston Huff, Tashaun Gipson, Mitch Unrein, Chris Prosinski, etc...

Sorry. Overall, Wyoming players are not higher level players than Mizzou players. I'm perplexed some think otherwise.

And, yes, he will get better players to work with at Utah than at UW right now.

He has no loyalty to us anymore, we FIRED him. He doesn't owe us anything. Why would he feel the need to talk us up?

Not saying he didn't find some diamonds in the rough but overall his job as a recruiter is leaps and bounds better in Utah then it was at Wyoming. I love my pokes and on occasion we find someone with great abilities that goes under the radar but don't fool yourself by thinking the kids he committed to Wyoming would have received offers at Utah. Some... Yes as a whole .... Probably not

Craig Bohl left NDSU on his own accord and he said he's excited to coach at a higher level too....does that mean he made a personal dig on each individual player he's currently coaching? I'd say no.

A voice of reason

Bohl did not throw his players under the bus. And that whole comparison fails because FBS IS A HIGHER LEVEL than FCS. Pac-12 and MWC play at the SAME LEVEL currently.

Chrisensen doesn't owe Wyoming anything. But to throw the players under the bus that he personally brought to Wyoming is unbelievably ridiculous.

If you truly believe that Wyoming is= to bcs schools you are Crazy. If Utah goes undefeated it will be in the championship discussion. If Wyoming goes undefeated we don't get the same respect.

See part of the reason byu is independent Utah is PAC 12 tcu is big 12 and Boise and sdsu tried to leave for bigger conferences. The divide is huge between non bcs conferences and bcs conferences and it is only getting bigger

I don't know that I'm reading into this like a lot on here. Missouri was a BcS school, Wyoming was not, and Utah is. As much as we like to think that we're at the same level as those two schools, we aren't. Wyoming is in the second tier of FBS schools, with Missouri and Utah being in the top tier.

Am I glad he's gone? yup. Am I looking for reasons to get mad at him and find faults? Nope.

Christensen would naturally say, that now he will have better players because he will be recruiting to a better conference.

There's no way he's going to man up and say "I was the one that recruited the players at Wyoming and maybe I wasn't very good at recruiting or coaching or I would still have my job there".

Dave was a smug, arrogant person and there isn't anything that's going to change that. Everyone knew he was arrogant, it's just now that it's time to call it like it is.
