The argument to end the drop to FCS argument

Add me to the chorus of people who would care much more about a Wyoming team that struggles in FBS over a FCS powerhouse. "Winning" doesn't happen in a vacuum. It's about who you play. I bet you're fired up to beat a five-year-old at a game of HORSE. Your claim that I "don't care about winning" with my preference for FBS struggle over FCS dominance is so mystifyingly stupid that it doesn't really deserve response.

Again, NOBODY CARES about FCS championships. They don't. I make dismissive wanking motions when a Montana fan bleats about their team. I would expect every other college football fan to do the same if we became a Big Sky powerhouse.

And this isn't just about fan identity and ego. If athletics are the front porch of the university and college football is the marquee event, it would seriously damage the university's image if we gave up on trying to play with the big kids. It would be a disaster from a marketing, recruiting, and donor attraction perspective.

Yup, and for most of them that is the biggest victory they will ever have. Do you want beating the Eastern Michigans of FBS to be our high point?

Right now I'd take it. What's our high point right now? That we're "improving" because we "only" lost by 17 the last game?

And the program has done nothing to squash my worries in that time frame. If the program showed a pulse I wouldn't beat this drum so hard. I guess after 20 years of the same results I see the writing on the wall. But we can agree to disagree. Gets us through the week until the Saturday's next huge, embarrassing failure.

We already have the infrastructure for FBS and our football program currently generates a little over 2 million. I have not seen data to determine how much if any of that 2 million profit is institutional support. If none of it is, then the argument to drop down becomes even weaker (if that is possible).

Also, the implications for the bball team alone would be catastrophic. In a sense, if you look at it no other way, our investment in football keeps us in the MWC which is by far our best bball option. Thus, spending on football subsidizes a better position for bball which I think I've seen you advocate (spending more to improve bball) in a few posts.

i just don't think we can recruit the quality type of D1 quality to shatter records etc...but I'm thinking we are truly middle of the pack recruiters, it's just trying to get quality kids to want to come to Laramie, my thing is being at Wazzu this past weekend, we can keep up, when we needed to, i think the coaching is suspect at times, reminding me of FCS caliber, maybe i'm wrong but it was better just hope we really come out and show the MWC we can win and especially beat New Mexico.
