So my question to you is this - who handed out the scholarships to these kidss? Last time I checked it was Bohl who recruited these guys. He's the one who took the freshman route and eschewed JC transfers. I don't get it. You yourself criticize many of the players today, yet Bohl is the savior? Somebody needs to take responsibility for having guys out on that field who don't belong in D1. I'm no coach, and I'm certainly no expert, but I have watched football for many, many years and there are kids out there that I seriously don't believe have the skill sets either physically or mentally to cut it at this level. So, please explain to me how a guy who is supposed to be a living "football god" can miss on this many kids. I don't think it's the kids' fault, it all falls on the coaching staff and an inability to teach even the most fundamental elements like tackling and blocking. This is a world class shit show and Craig Bohl and his fellow coaches need to take a long look in the mirror because they are letting these players down. Fuck us fans, can you imagine being thrown to the wolves like this (and we aren't even playing any difficult opponents yet).
I'm not calling for Bohl to be fired, but I guarantee you it's time he started micromanaging his staff and figure out what is going on. He and Vigen and Stanard and the rest of the crew need to be on the hot seat. They recruited these kids. They have been coaching these kids. They work with them every day. They draw up the game plan. And when those kids hit the field it's like WTF? I won't give up on the kids, but I will not hesitate to call out a piss poor performance by a coaching staff. Not only are the players in over their heads, but a lot of the coaches are as well. End of rant.
You have to give him some slack on some of these kids. He had how long to get a first recruiting class together? Dave left him two kids. Two. And one is gone already. The lack of talent is showing in some guys like Smith and Aaron Young but he needed a quarterback in that first class so he had to take a shot. I believe we have much better talent with Allen and then some good talent coming with Chandler Garrett.
And while today may be frustrating, the improvement I saw was unbelievable. While Allen getting hurt really killed us, I thought there were some positives. The defense is young and Andrew Wingard had a big day. Christian Irving played well and had a great hit on special teams. The offense is young with multiple young receivers, Allen returning, and of course Brian Hill. I just wish Overstreet could get some more carries this year. While we went 4-8 last year, I believe 2-10 could have easily happened as we had very questionable wins against Air Force and FAU. I do believe we will get a game or two like Fresno State where we put it together as a team and look real impressive. It's going to be a little bumpy, its going to be a little rough, so if you don't like it, get off for now and don't let everyone hear it. I do believe better days are ahead.
