Can't wait to welcome the pokes to San Marcos this weekend! Can't say I'm surprised at the enthusiasm and confidence for your team on this board.. you guys have had an impressive start to the season.
A few things to expect from your opponent.
Offense: It's not a secret that we've struggled on offense this year. The numbers don't lie, but I will say we've faced two pretty good defenses in Southern Miss (numbers may not show it, but they have D talent) and Texas Tech. We have issues both in the offensive line and QB play, not to mention some questionable playcalling by the staff (which is debatable because they designed a game plan to win, not keep it competitive). For example, we got to the one yard line TWICE last Saturday and could not score.. we also went for it on 4th down both times. Tyler Arndt is a pocket passer, Senior QB who was recruited under a different offense. He has not started until this year since he tore his ACL. What's funny is that if you look deeper into the stats from the Tech game, the reason we lost was all on offense. A few things to know, we like to run the ball, control the clock, and play a rather boring offense that can cause problems if your defense isn't ready (see La Tech last year)
Defense: We have a salty defense, so I hope you guys are prepared. Here are the numbers so far:
Rushing D - #3
Red Zone D - #8
Overall - #24
Like I said, if you look into the details, you'll find that our D actually held Tech's high powered offense to two offensive touchdowns. We've only faced no huddle offenses this year, so I'm not worried about how we'll measure up against the Pokes. What's funny is that our game vs Tech was the first time they played their starters the entire game this year. Don't let the score fool you, if our offense would have sucked just a little less (mental mistakes causing turnovers, etc), the score would have been MUCH closer
Any of you making the trip to Central Texas?
