Can't wait to welcome the pokes to San Marcos this weekend! Can't say I'm surprised at the enthusiasm and confidence for your team on this board.. you guys have had an impressive start to the season.

A few things to expect from your opponent.

Offense: It's not a secret that we've struggled on offense this year. The numbers don't lie, but I will say we've faced two pretty good defenses in Southern Miss (numbers may not show it, but they have D talent) and Texas Tech. We have issues both in the offensive line and QB play, not to mention some questionable playcalling by the staff (which is debatable because they designed a game plan to win, not keep it competitive). For example, we got to the one yard line TWICE last Saturday and could not score.. we also went for it on 4th down both times. Tyler Arndt is a pocket passer, Senior QB who was recruited under a different offense. He has not started until this year since he tore his ACL. What's funny is that if you look deeper into the stats from the Tech game, the reason we lost was all on offense. A few things to know, we like to run the ball, control the clock, and play a rather boring offense that can cause problems if your defense isn't ready (see La Tech last year)

Defense: We have a salty defense, so I hope you guys are prepared. Here are the numbers so far:

Rushing D - #3
Red Zone D - #8
Overall - #24

Like I said, if you look into the details, you'll find that our D actually held Tech's high powered offense to two offensive touchdowns. We've only faced no huddle offenses this year, so I'm not worried about how we'll measure up against the Pokes. What's funny is that our game vs Tech was the first time they played their starters the entire game this year. Don't let the score fool you, if our offense would have sucked just a little less (mental mistakes causing turnovers, etc), the score would have been MUCH closer

Any of you making the trip to Central Texas?

Mint,

Welcome to Poke Nation. I think most of us have reviewed your teams stats. Many feel that this is a "trap game" for Wyoming. However, given the teams that you have played, I am not sure that the TS defense has faced an offense like the Pokes. Although you did hang tough with TT, remember, they played 2 freshman qb's. Smith is a seasoned veteran. The stat's seem pretty good for TS, but then again, they played ULM and Prairie View. Neither team is known to be a powerhouse of offense or a powerhouse on defense. I notice that the Bobcat's barely survived the Southern Miss game. Given Southern Miss win/loss and overall team statistics, I am not to sure the Bobcats are prepared to endure the second fastest paced offense in the country. But, then again, you play the game for a reason, right?

Unfortunately for TS, many of Wyomings players that have been injured will return for this game. This only adds to the depth and talent. Look for Smith & Company to score early, often, and in bunches.

Welcome, and here's to a well played game with no injuries to either team!

It'll definitely be interesting to see how these two teams match up. We haven't really played a passing quarterback yet (Northern Colorado doesn't count), and that just might be the weakness of our defense. Similarly, we haven't really played a decent defense yet either, but on the positive side, we finally have both a rushing AND a passing game, making us a lot more dangerous.

I _hope_ Wyoming is plenty better on offense than Texas Tech is this season. Just from watching their games, it seems to be that way, at least.

In the end it'll come down to execution. If Wyoming's offense comes out like they did against Air Force, making pretty much perfect reads and play selection all game long, Texas State will have to score on almost every drive as well, or it can get ugly. However, if Wyoming comes out like they did against NoCo and Idaho, this could get very uncomfortable for Wyoming fans.

Welcome to the board, Mint! I'd like to make the trip this weekend, but unfortunately will be missing my first game of the year. There are a lot of Poke faithful in the area, though, so you should have a good visiting crowd.

I'm worried about this game. We've had the Air Force game circled since the debacle last season, and got up in a big way for it. Texas State has a good opportunity to catch us sleeping, and it scares the hell out of me. Good luck to the Bobcats, and here's to everyone coming out of the game in one piece!

I feel you are much tougher than alot of Pokes fans may give you credit for, with any Dennis Franchione teams he always gets max from his players, but I can see this being more of a game than most. Execution is key and may the best team win....GO POKES

Welcome to the board. I always enjoy San Marcos (lived in Austin for quite a while) and this should be a fun game.

Franchione knows how to build a program and your defense has been impressive thus far. A very interesting contrast between the style of play with these two teams. I think this Wyoming team is pretty good, this is a nice opportunity for a quality road win.

From the looks of it, it seems like Texas State is a passing team. Wyoming is not a pass-defending team. I hope this doesn't mean TS for the Pokes.

Welcome to board!

As the others have said, if you get the Wyoming team that faced Air Force and Nebraska, you'll need to score on about every drive. If you get the team from the Northern Colorado and Idaho games, it could be very uncomfortable for us Wyoming fans. To go along with out fast paced and quick strike offense, our defense does the "bend but don't break" style. Our 2 NTs do a good job of hogging up the middle and we have linebackers and DBs that love to swarm the ball.

Gotcha Beaver Man! Gotcha! They have 429 yards this season!

I know this game didn't end the way most here were expecting, but thank you to those who came down to visit. For me, the delay worked out perfectly because I was able to grab dinner nearby at Saltgrass (where Wyoming fans were having their pregame stuff) and once I finished (much busier than expected), the teams were warming up again.

I've seen plenty of stuff on here about the LHN and let me be the first to say that y'all aren't alone in thinking the thing is shit. Up until this year when Time Warner signed on, a lot of people in the area could not get the game... so yeah we are on TV, but it's a station that a) gives me stupid commercials about UT swimming; and b) that a lot of people still can't see.

Good luck the rest of the season.. will be cheering for y'all to make a run at the conference title!

Oh, and I hope y'all didn't really bet the ranch on the vegas line like I recommended in the other thread  :D

Thanks Mint, you and the rest of the Bobcat fans have been great on here and respectful. I hope you have a great rest of the season and good luck.
