I think the closest was Wyoming losing by ONLY 28.

Another had 31-20.

I know some of these big team fans like to think they'll steamroll anyone not in an AQ conference, but what the hell are some of these guys smoking?

Texas went 5-7 in 2010 but still beat UW by 27 points. And Wyoming was supposedly going to have a big year in 2010 too. That 40-50 point crap is ridiculous, but its not unreasonable to think Texas might win by 4 TDs.

It all comes down to whether or not we can stop the run, and how conservative our offensive play calling is. If they can run at will and average around 5 YPC they can dictate the tempo and run up the score. Texas is going to be the best defense we face all year by far, and remembering the games vs. TCU, Boise State, and Temple last year I could see the possibility of us getting super conservative on offense (i.e. screens, screens, and more screens) in order to try and keep certain people healthy. If we do that we don't have a snowballs chance in hell. To have any chance we need to be able to slow down the ground game, open up the playbook, and get lucky with a couple turnovers or big special teams plays. I hate to say it but we need to be more than perfect. I fully 100% believe that we can keep this thing competitive, and the fact that everyone is already writing us off works in our favor, but the fact still remains if we don't execute and we play timid things could get ugly real fast.

We had better not roll over like a dog and play conservatively. I paid good money for a plane ticket, hotel and game tickets to watch DC not play to win. Given his comments, it seems that he is much less tentative than he has been in the past. He actually acknowledges that we might have some talent and is not talking like he did before and after games like the Boise State game several years ago (stuff like: "we aren't there yet" and "we don't have the players to compete"). I don't know that we can win - but we have beaten teams ranked a heck of a lot higher than Texas in the past. We scared the crap out of Nebraska at home the year they won the national title. We can win - but we have to play to win...not "escape without injury" and "keep from being embarrassed." If we do play tentatively and overly conservative, then we might as well not schedule Texas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oregon. If DC is serious about being where Boise State is - go, play and win big games. If you don't want to be at that level, then schedule FCS teams so we don't get hurt and pad our record with meaningless wins. Yes, I know that there is more to the season than beating Texas or dying while we try, but darn it, we can't pack it in and fly into Austin with even the fleeting thought that we could easily lose by 28 points. Save some stupid penalties and play calls, we take Nebraska to the 4th Quarter last year. Save some bad luck at the end of the half with Boise State last year and coming out of the half like we had never seen a football before that is a hell of a ball game into the 4th Quarter against a team a lot more highly ranked than Texas this year - at their place. To hell with caution. To hell with pessimism.

Hopefully we come out like we did in the first half of the SDSU game last year. Give 'em hell, 'Pokes!
