We had better not roll over like a dog and play conservatively. I paid good money for a plane ticket, hotel and game tickets to watch DC not play to win. Given his comments, it seems that he is much less tentative than he has been in the past. He actually acknowledges that we might have some talent and is not talking like he did before and after games like the Boise State game several years ago (stuff like: "we aren't there yet" and "we don't have the players to compete"). I don't know that we can win - but we have beaten teams ranked a heck of a lot higher than Texas in the past. We scared the crap out of Nebraska at home the year they won the national title. We can win - but we have to play to win...not "escape without injury" and "keep from being embarrassed." If we do play tentatively and overly conservative, then we might as well not schedule Texas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oregon. If DC is serious about being where Boise State is - go, play and win big games. If you don't want to be at that level, then schedule FCS teams so we don't get hurt and pad our record with meaningless wins. Yes, I know that there is more to the season than beating Texas or dying while we try, but darn it, we can't pack it in and fly into Austin with even the fleeting thought that we could easily lose by 28 points. Save some stupid penalties and play calls, we take Nebraska to the 4th Quarter last year. Save some bad luck at the end of the half with Boise State last year and coming out of the half like we had never seen a football before that is a hell of a ball game into the 4th Quarter against a team a lot more highly ranked than Texas this year - at their place. To hell with caution. To hell with pessimism.
