Tarleton State - MWC Target

Tarleton isn’t a bad get. They’re invested in their programs, in Texas, and would likely rise to the level of competing relatively quickly. Other FCS schools that have made the jump in the past few years are proving their worth and they would too. Add them, then the 2 MAC schools for football only, and it’s done. Wait on the Dakotas and Montanas until they are absolutely needed. We all know that realignment isn’t over. Once the Power 2 combine, they’ll take a few from the Big12 and the ACC, then those leagues will attempt to do what the PAC is doing now. Try to stay relevant and keep a power status. You’ll see teams bounce all over for the next best shiny object and the G6 will continue to backfill. It’s disgusting, but it’s reality until college football gets a commissioner, implements collective bargaining, and salary caps for players. And that’s a ways off.
In the meantime, welcome back UTEP!
I don't see UNLV making it in this conference until 2031 if Tarleton State is one of their fellow conference members. THere was a provision that UNLV could bail (without penalty) if they got an invite from a P4 conference. I'm wondering if they can bail if they just go independent. Some of these programs -- UTEP, San Jose State and now Tarleton State are just so irrelevant. They are not going to bring any sort of television viewers.

ANY of the remaining MW teams would bail for a P4 invite! And it will likely happen in the next 6-8 years. The SEC and B10 have already set into motion a merger of a sort, which will cause for some ACC and Big12 movements, which will cause some G6 to get called to the ACC and Big 12, and so forth. The bottom line is until some actual regulation can occur in college football, this crap will continue to happen. It’s reality.

Best option, and I know this won't be popular, is NDSU. Second best is Montana. From there, maybe UTSA, UNT, Texas State, Toledo, N. Illinois, Tulsa, etc., etc.

I agree. But UTSA, UNT and Tulsa probably aren’t realistic at all. Why would they pay $20 million in exit fees to leave the AAC for this? The AAC is almost unanimously viewed as a better conference than what we have. Texas State declined leaving the Sun Belt (with a $5 million exit fee which was said to be covered by the MWC).

NDSU/SDSU
Montana/Montana State
Sacramento State
Northern Illinois/Toledo (football only)
Hawaii (all sports)
DEATH

That’s the way I see our potential options in light of the Texas State rejection.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Feds investigating Liberty of wrongdoing involving its' students?

Doesn't matter, though... just like BYU they'll just pay their way out of any legal trouble they run into. There's no real consequences when you have unlimited money!

Already paid the $16 million fine for hiding sexual assaults and violating the Clery Act.

I'm still of the opinion that schools should report sexual crimes to law enforcement and that's about it. Schools should not be investigating anything. They can definitely make improvements based on the investigation but we already have a system to enforce laws. There's no due process for the accused.

SJSU is more relevant than Nevada, Hawaii and New Mexico from the remaining MWC teams. SJSU has won a conference title in the last 5 years and should have been in the title game last year after beating UNLV, but they got in for a better record against an easy schedule. Either way, SJSU was tied for the regular season championship last season.

Are we pissed off about prior admin and what they did to the stadium? Yes. Have we been told that we can place about 4k premium seats and a bar (that was already planned) for under the scoreboard for roughly the cost of what they will get from the PAC exit fees. Also potential for additional seats on both sides of the building. Once the football stadium is finished, the next upgrade is the basketball arena.

I don't think anyone left can cast stones at conference mates.

Glad SJSU is around. Been a lot of potential and still is.

Best case scenario at this point...

•Make Hawai'i a full time / full participant conference member
•Bring up NDSU as a full time conference member

Call it good.
I'm here too.

I'd have discussions with MT schools to start evaluating their desire/needs should the jump become viable for all involved.

If we assume that playoff access remains through 2032 or whatever it is, I think competitiveness of the league becomes more important than schools in x% population areas for the MWC going forward. If a major split happens before that, regionalism and competitiveness are definitely most important.

I'm not in support of Tarelton but it's interesting that they'd be 9th in the MWC in attendance.
