Tarleton State - MWC Target

It’s been reported by ESPN and several media outlets. I really hope it doesn’t materialize but doubtful the reporting is fake.
Meant like misdirection or distraction from the next primary target or putting up the illusion that we have a lot of options. Fake as in not serious.

At least I hope it's not serious.

There’s no secret that Texas State is the target. It’s been widely reported that they were orally offered membership. But Texas State is sitting back and 1) looking for a PAC invite; 2) looking for an AAC invite should Memphis leave for PAC; and 3) maybe go to MWC if those other options don’t materialize (or just stay in Sun Belt).

I am doubtful Texas State will join the MWC at this point. And no target brings more media revenue in; just at least one more addition is a necessity. I could very well see Tarleton State joining and that would effectively end the conference through future moves.

I have no idea why they'd be floating Tarelton? Sam Houston makes more sense of you're going remote TX.

Maybe central time zone is really important? I'm not disagreeing with anyone; I'm just trying to figure out what a possible motive could be? There has to be something?

Tarleton St. has a good basketball team. Their coach is Billy Gillespie. They would have kicked Wyomings butt last year.

They bring something on the basketball side. Football not so much.

Tarleton isn’t a bad get. They’re invested in their programs, in Texas, and would likely rise to the level of competing relatively quickly. Other FCS schools that have made the jump in the past few years are proving their worth and they would too. Add them, then the 2 MAC schools for football only, and it’s done. Wait on the Dakotas and Montanas until they are absolutely needed. We all know that realignment isn’t over. Once the Power 2 combine, they’ll take a few from the Big12 and the ACC, then those leagues will attempt to do what the PAC is doing now. Try to stay relevant and keep a power status. You’ll see teams bounce all over for the next best shiny object and the G6 will continue to backfill. It’s disgusting, but it’s reality until college football gets a commissioner, implements collective bargaining, and salary caps for players. And that’s a ways off.
In the meantime, welcome back UTEP!
