"Serious ups.'' It sounds like Moemeka could do a lot of what Cooke did last year.

Maybe in a few years... I don't see him being near the same level as cooke this year, he led the freaking nation in dunks last year! With naughton, Dalton, and Barnes with great length as well as Herndon we can afford to red shirt a big. Why not moemeka? When he does play, I see him progressing like cooke, with may be an even more explosive senior year since he'll have at least 1 more year in the program than cooke.

After seeing a lot of video of Moemeka I don't really see anyway he red shirts. He is probably the most athletic big we have on the team. He is actually pretty damn good. Think he could get decent amount of playing time. He can step out and hit the 3 ball also. He can jump very well.

Think Naughton would red shirt before him or even Jonathon Barnes. Just my opinion from what I have seen.

That's fair, sounds like you've seen more video than me so I'll not disagree with you. I don't think Barnes red shirts. The classes are so deep for freshmen and sophmores I don't want to see a lot of guys redshirting that will mess up class distribution even more. With Marshall, James, and Conway coming in and Washington coming back, I can possibly see lieberman or gorski redshirting with one of the freshman bigs redshirting as well (moemeka or naughton). That, or Barnes red shirts along with Conway but I don't see that happening.

Basically, I see one big and one guard redshirting, with one being a freshman and one being a sophomore.

Yeah I am not sure who will red shirt but let me link some video's of Moemeka for you guys to check out. I just don't see him being one of the ones red shirting. Then again I am not part of the coaching staff so who knows what they have planned.

Honestly in those videos Moemeka looks a little raw to me. Doesn't help that it looks like he's playing against guys that look like me in one of them   I'm not sold on him being able to go in the MWC this year on those vids but I do appreciate them being posted.Hell I'm all for surprises though and I'd love this new Pokes team to do that. It's great news to hear that we're bigger then expected, butI think he means more length then muscle.

I wonder if we're gonna be in the position to redshirt any of our bigs? I feel it'd be easier for us to redshirt 2 guards with how loaded we are there. End of the day you just want the guys that aren't MW ready to redshirt. Wish Barnes would've last year. Damn fellas listen to Coach Shy! Dude knows what he's doing.

I agree he is a little raw but in terms of athletic ability he is better than any of our other big's. The guys he was playing against were the top players in Florida which many are going to SEC and ACC schools. Obviously not all of them but he has played against good competition since he was on the same team as Justin James.

My main point is in comparison to the other big's we have the only one that I can confidently say is better than Moemeka at this point is Herndon and that is only because of the experience. I think Moemeka looks like to me after some experience and being coached by Shyatt he can be a force.

My first impression of him is a young Derek Cooke with better coordination and the makings of a jump shot. I don't expect him to be MWC New Comer of the year but I think if he doesn't red shirt he will play positive, contributing minutes.

Not looking to knock him here cause he looks like a good recruit. If he's anything like DC that is something very welcome to our team. Overall I think our talent is just getting better and better from the start. I like the look of the kid for sure and if he sees the court he'll have earned it. We really need our bigs to step up this season, in any fashion they can. I'm hoping Naughton comes through too. We just need some stick backs/layups/dunks, solid D, and to keep the boards reasonably close this year from these guys. It's a simple checklist that they need to figure out by committee. I think our guards can generate offense so we don't necessarily need these guys making post moves, but any O down low always helps to free up the outside.

Moemeka is light years ahead of where Cooke started.

Obviously I don't think we have MW player of the year as a freshman on the roster but damn one could be freshman POY

I'm not worried about offense, but I believe the ability of the new players to play defense will determine the amount of PT they get. I hope Barnes has been working on his offense, because he plays pretty good defense from what I have seen. If the new players buy into Shyatt's defense, we could have a pretty good team with lots of depth by the middle of conference play. OOC could be very interesting.

I tried to find some Naughton videos but there isn't much. Sounds like he might be closer to where Cooke started

Everyone on the roster is far from where Cooke started. Cooke was a JC football player who only started playing basketball after a growth spurt. I read somewhere that Naughton was an under the radar guy and a good get for Wyoming. There is footage of him out there.

I've tried to find footage of Naughton for the last few months and there just isn't much at all out there so kind of hard to tell what type of a player he is.

I know the coaching staff recruits guys they can turn into good players though and I had heard he was an under the radar guy also that started playing late. Not as late as Cooke I don't think. Think he is ahead of where Cooke was. Think he will be good.

Look on youtube the school he went to is etiwanda prep there are 5-6 videos out there with high lights that include him.

Wyoming to play Nebraska in closed-door scrimmage

Wyoming’s men’s basketball team will spend Halloween in Lincoln, Nebraska, this year.

Rather than partaking in a closed-door scrimmage with Utah — as per usual — the Cowboys will take on Nebraska on Oct. 31, UW coach Larry Shyatt told the Star-Tribune on Tuesday.

The Border War is coming back to Billings. I know a lot of people disagree with playing these guys twice a year. For those of us living in northern Wyoming, this is kind of sweet. Montana State in Billings falls on a football BYE weekend this year, although it is on a Sunday, it tips off at 2:00. There's a good chance a lot of us can invade Rimjob Arena.

I'm starting to think there's no way James redshirts, and even has a possibility of starting. [tweet]https://twitter.com/ryanholmgren/status/621817245703008256[/tweet]

Great article. It got me all jacked up and excited for this fall! Love me some Pokes basketball!! This kid could be a monster. Imagine him on the 1 or 2 against someone like Cullen Neal. He'd dominate and create mismatches and holes all over the opposing defense. CANNOT WAIT!

I agree. I have thought he would start all along most likely. He is the best freshman we have by far I would say. You don't get player of the year in the state of Florida over all of those other top recruits going to sec and acc schools and not be something special.
