Student section

so in the reality of it all, we are just spozed to sit there and clap our hands and say oooohhh and ahhhhh more but no more than that. Cmon get real....pathetic if you ask me and you know truly how i feel about it all.
They've transformed the Dome into how they've wanted it from the start, oh well, can't do much about it anymore

First - I very, very, very much doubt said students were removed for just standing. That doesn't happen, even with the largely inept landmark security group. Something else had to have happened, either in conjunction or separate...but something.

Second - I think it is great that gopokes1399 posted this, and others are allowed to express their opinions on this message board. In contrast to monkeyboy's statement - part of what makes a great message board is sharing thoughts, opinions, concerns, bitches / complaints, losses, victories, celebrations, etc. Sometimes it isn't about "getting things done" - in fact most of the time everything posted on this board falls on deaf ears.

Don't believe it or don't wanna believe it? Multiple people have said the same thing about the situation.

I guess - I don't believe it. As I said, something else had to have happened. I have been tossed from many places / sporting events, and I can't say I am proud about that, but in every situation, it usually was my mouth that got me escorted out.

I watched them the entire 5 minutes they stood in the first half. They did nothing wrong. It was two guys and their girlfriends. They were standing in the first row behind the band. A mom sitting one row behind me complained to someone about the four standing. Soon after, the cop came down and she stood up and started cheering for them getting kicked out. The female Laramie city officer asked them to sit down, they refused, and she kicked them out. The four did nothing wrong at all. As the cop was walking back up the stairs, another student came out into the isle and got into her face about the incident. It is dumb that they are so oppressive.

I can 1000% confirm this. I was actually sitting in the same row & section as them... About 3 seats down. I heard the entire exchange between the cop and the fans. We were literally the row BEHIND the band. It's almost impossible to see anything if you're not standing. I heard students behind me saying "No one else in this entire building is standing" so why are you? It was rather ridiculous. There were several complaints from people in our section behind them. They were asked to sit down by some spectators behind us.

I got up to get some grub with about 4 minutes left in the half (shortly after the students were kicked out) and the cop was in the concourse still talking to the students who were removed saying that they received several complains. The students couldn't believe why they had been kicked out.

I have a buddy who worked the game.. He heard the entire thing over his headset. The marketing guy is pissed at the fact they got kicked out. Apparently they're going to talk about it this week.

On a personal note, as a student, Landmark and issues like this make it very difficult to want to come to a game. Last weekend at the New Mexico game, Landmark forced about 25 students out from under the scoreboard. There are some concrete steps/seats directly under. The Student Section was about at capacity, and the portal attendants wouldn't let us move to anywhere else. I get the reasoning for it, but it's frustrating.

create a rowdy section advise others coming what kinda of section it is so buyer beware etc....this is getting ridiculous

And there you go. They weren't asked to leave just because they were standing. They were asked to leave because they were getting complaints, and refused to listen to AA personnel when they tried to step in and resolve the issue.

Should people be able to stand? Of course. But creating a scene just to make that point doesn't make them any more correct.

They were getting unfounded complaints. Are you justifying their expulsion because someone else didn't like them standing? Boo frickin hoo, it's a basketball game, people stand. And from another poster, it sounds like they needed to stand to be able to see the court because of the band.

Getting kicked out for being profane is one thing, but actually getting kicked out for being an attentive fan is straight up bullshit.

There it is. Problem #1. STUDENTS complaining about fans standing in the STUDENT section? Unless it's during a timeout or halftime, the students had better be standing!

I know that I've said it will take time to get the rowdy student section/atmosphere most of us remember, and I still believe that. But there's been enough time and good basketball this season that students should expect to have to stand for the game. Cops and security were always there when I was in Laramie, but I think they mostly volunteered for that duty so they could watch the game. I saw a few kids get kicked out, but it was usually alcohol related. For anything other than that, the cops should be de-escalating the situation with the complainers.

It's frustrating, but I hope they let the students get a little rowdy for CSEwe, the team will need that energy.

GO POKES!

^^^ That's my sarcastic shocked face.

This sounds like a weird solution, but they honestly need to get rid of the seats in the student section and put down bleachers. Use some metal ones, like in the football stadium. They're louder.

Someone told me that they put the comfy seats in the student section in case they decide to move it at some point down the road. That's a pretty shitty answer if you ask me. With bleachers, you'd be able to fit more students in there, and they wouldn't be tempted to sit and look at their phones the entire game - which is exactly what they're doing outside of the 3 rows of students down on the floor.

Yep. Another reason was that there are other events besides basketball (concerts, graduation, etc.) and they wanted the seating to look uniform and complete regardless of the configuration of different events.

Reasonable enough, but it's a basketball arena first. Its the ARENA-Auditorium. Not the Theater-Auditorium-Concert hall-Arena.

Need some good rowdy students to sit in the first row of the section above the floor seats. Have them stand and be rowdy and force everyone else behind them to stand.

i can only imagine the problems with any rowdys that want to attend the CSU game, man little did we know rennovations were gonna cause this kinda issue

I remember around the late 1990's to early 2000s it seemed that more and more games were becoming available on TV. Big Monday was a MWC thing. With that, some of the "off-color" chants of the student section could be heard on live TV.

If I remember correctly, TV execs complained and Wyoming ADs started cracking down on the Student section. Not sure if that is true or just urban legend of the era.

Nonetheless, it looks like they (AD) are taking it way too far.

We definitely need more than 3 rows of kids that are willing to be rowdy. That or some of the kids from the floor need to bite the bullet and sit in the first row of seats behind the SRO. If the front row stands up, then everyone will.

Do these things get mentioned in the BI? Do kids read the BI still?

I don't believe these things get mentioned in the BI, but also there's not very many people that I know of who read it in the first place

Just so you are aware Montana - no cool story (or in my case escort out of a sporting event) ever started, "so I was having a salad..."

Anyone here going to the MWC tourney wanna get ejected with me? I can show you the way. :thumb:

over under 5.5 number of new students getting a bit too rowdy and getting kicked outta the AA against CSU...lol
