Sternberg should resign

IIRC all of the staff that resigned are still teaching as faculty. If they really couldn't work with Sternburg why are they still on staff?

Because regular faculty doesn't really deal much with the President of the University and finding a new job in November for a college professor isn't easy.

Too early to tell. We'll see what happens I guess!
Lots of positions open up for the spring semester. I'm sure if it was so bad they could have found a position elsewhere. The A&S dean was like a million years old and needed to go. Not sure why he was still around.

Agreed on all fronts. My original thought (and like you said we will see) is that we have a president in place now that isn't passive, has a different thought on accountability, and is taking the bull by the horns. And by doing so, there is some feather ruffling going on. Hope that is accurate, because if not, the mess to clean up is going to be horrendous.

I think he's doing what needs to be done. I'm sorry to hear that some people are happy with where we are. I'm not. As I wrote in a letter to President Sternberg, we should be striving to be the best in any area that we choose to participate. Law, Engineering, Natural Resources, Music, Athletics, everything! I'm personally very happy that we have someone in a position of power that has the vision and the gumption to make the necessary changes so that we can be the best.

Mediocrity has been a long standing problem in Wyoming. People get up in arms about "outsiders" coming in and try to change the status quo. Well people, change isn't easy. There are going to be some hurt feeling along the way, and it's going to make people uncomfortable. Sounds a lot like junior high, doesn't it? Just like our physical changes growing into adults, these growing pains are necessary for us to get better. It's going to be a bumpy ride, but I have faith that there are great things down the road for UW. We just needed the right person to turn us in the right direction.

Somebody in Laramie needs to do an opposing view reply to that letter(s) to the editor. For now at least, I think Sternberg is the right person for the job and was brought in at either the right time or should have been brought in sooner. I like his attitude at least so far. This good ol boy network that thinks everything is just fine the way it is has gone on too long.

You should check it right now. A certain local on there laid into a couple of those guys.

I'm not in Laramie, but maybe I can go online and check it out.

I meant the article.

This all sounds like a typical change in leadership to me. This happens all over the country at private companies, government bodies, and educational institutions. Leadership changes, visions change, and people look for something new. I'm not surprised at all. And it might ruffle a few feathers, but in the end it's usually a good thing. I don't hear anything in these announcements that gives me any reason to doubt his leadership so far.

The same kind of thing happened when Dubois was President, and like it or not, he did great things for the University. Buchanan was a much more hands off "good ol' boy." While that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, I'm happy to see a forward-thinker take over and make some changes. It should be good for UW across the board.

GO POKES!

I think Sternberg is trying to fix a ship that has been taking on water for years. Personally I want to root for a winner. I want to be a proud Wyo alumni and as of late, I am not. I belong to the Cowboy Joe Club, I buy my season tickets, I try to interact with the players when I can and I believe what is going down is whats best for the UW. I won't tolerate another ass kicking by a team scoring 50 points by anyone. The attitude of hoping for just a bowl game have to change. I want us to build a powerhouse. I dont want to hear it cant be done. I want to hear how it will be done. If Boise or even Nevada ( in past years ) can be perennial winners , so can The UW. This president was livid after the CSU debacle at our house, as was every Cowboy fan. We need to support the president in efforts to build our Football and Bball programs into championship caliber teams. The most glaring fact is our lack of funding to the Football team. Time to open the vault and build a championship team

Sounds like some professors with something stuck in their craw are hiding behind screen names. I like a good debate, but i am bowing out on the Boomerang site now. Those people are clueless.

Some people might not want to come to UW to be a dean right now because of the shit storm...OR some people might think this is a great opportunity to come.
It depends if they think it is a shit storm or not.
If they see it as a University that is making huge strides to get into the 21st century and become great in academics (and athletics) then a lot of people will want a job here @ UW.
