Stephen Buchanan - Big Step on World Stage

Man I wish he would have stayed 😑
Agreed. But keeping him was always a longshot when wrestlers with his talent now routinely make roughly $1 million a year at certain schools. Frankly, I just wish he would have won a national title at Wyoming instead of taking 3rd and later winning at Iowa.

That said, being a 4X All-American, National Champ and now one of the best in the world, hard to argue he isn’t the best wrestler ever to compete for Wyoming.

True, yes. but he’s not really ours to claim anymore. He just has to win his natty while competing for Iowa. He could have been an absolute legend here, like in the all time Mt. Rushmore of UW athletes. now he’s just another Iowa guy.

In fairness, he spent 3.5 years at Wyoming, 1.5 years at Oklahoma and 1 year at Iowa. College athletes are becoming less and less identifiable with any single school. He even spent more time at Wyoming than Bryce Meredith.

Fans have always cared more about this than athletes. particularly while they are competing. If being an "all-timer" held much sway with these guys, you would see more gifted athletes go to historically bad programs because "all-timer" status would theoretically be easier to get. But that never happens.....they go where the lights are the brightest and the bag of cash is the largest. School spirit and historical greatness at a particular university probably isn't in the top 10.
