Hot Air with the Bucking Horse and Rider. . .
There aren't many individuals more passionate about their university than Bruce Pivic. He has been extremely kind to UW and in particular the athletics department through his company Infinity Power and Controls. A hot-air balloon enthusiast, one of the three hot air balloons he owns is a terrific illustration of that passion. Conditions in Laramie have been such this week that he has been flying the dirigible over Laramie during the early morning hours. What a demonstration of Poke Pride! The yellow balloon is easy to recognize with the bucking horse and rider livery. Bruce, whose son Jeff is the assistant athletics director for development for the Cowboy Joe Club, has flown his balloon over many places, including Provo, Utah. But he said landing it in Prexy's Pasture yesterday was a bucket-list moment. He and his family are great Wyoming fans.

Wishing Her the Best. . .
For the past eight years Jen Kost has spent countless hours in the athletics department marketing Cowboy and Cowgirl athletics. A native of Powell, her passion for her alma mater and UW athletics was constantly demonstrated in her work. Kost is leaving us to become the marketing director at West Virginia University in Morgantown. It is a great opportunity for her and we wish her the very best.

An Excellent Stepping Stone. . .
The performance of six Wyoming swimmers at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials last week was a marvelous indication of how Tom Johnson's program has grown. Of those six, four are returning for next season which offered a great window to sport's future at UW. The best performance, however, was produced by a Cowgirl who has completed her eligibility. Kelsey Conci began the week with the best performance. She became the first swimmer since 2004 Olympian Scott Usher to make the semifinals of an Olympic Trial event. She swam her way into the semifinals where she placed 11th. The other senior to compete was Brandon Fischer who posted two top-30 times. The four returning UW swimmers who competed were Trevor LeValley, Morgan Hartigan, Jayce Calhoon and Jordan Turner. "I was hoping this could be a stepping stone for all of our kids returning," Johnson said. "All of our returning kids had tremendous swims and I know swimming in this type of atmosphere (Olympic Trials) will really help them going into next season." Johnson has made Wyoming swimming a highly-successful enterprise.

From the Ticket Office. . .
The UW Athletics Ticket Office will be closed for the July 4 holiday, but will reopen on Thursday at 7:30 a.m.

The UW Athletics Ticket Office is rolling out a new mobile ticketing option for Cowboy and Cowgirl fans. With this option fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets using their web-enabled mobile device. What does it mean? It means easier navigation, faster transactions, and the ability to purchase tickets to Wyoming events from the palm of your hand. In order to use the new program smart phone users simply have to access the mobile version of wyomingathletics.com. On the main webpage there is a link that connects users to Mobile Ticketing and the ability to purchase tickets. Ticket options like season and single-game and mini-plan packages can be purchased through this option. It certainly makes the ticket-buying process more convenient for Wyoming fans.

Around the Chutes. . .
In case you hadn't heard Cowboy track student-athlete Greg Miller received the Mountain West's highest honor recently when he was named the 2011-12 MW Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The cross country and distance runner is the first Wyoming student-athlete ever to earn this prestigious award. The honor is awarded annually to one male and one female who best exemplify the term "student-athlete" by achieving excellence in academics, athletics and community involvement. A two-time All-MW performer, Miller completed his undergraduate degree with a 3.88 cumulative grade point average. The four-year letter winner also earned Academic All-MW and MW Scholar-Athlete honors four straight years.
