Curious your views on their take that Bohl's and Sawful's records in their first two years are comparable so we need to give Sawful a break (that was my read of what they were saying - maybe others heard it differently).

IMHO, Bohl inherited a mess. Sawful inherited a team that had been bowling (in crummy bowls mind you, but bowling and winning). Sawful was supposed to "take the next step". He took four steps back. Anyone with a pulse knew the Jay Johnson era was bound to be a garbage tenure. Horrible hire. And now we are back in the basement hoping we can climb out. In the revamped MWC, the fact we are in the bottom half is wholly inexcusable and rests on the shoulders of Burman and Saw. If we are .500 in this crap conference with our crap OOC schedule after this year - we are a crap outfit.

Seems Keith is a bit like Ryan T. They aren't exactly neutral and won't call balls and strikes. I don't need the media to gut the program, but I would like someone to speak a little bit of unfiltered truth.

Jay inherited (and was already on the staff) a team that just had their winningest season in 26 years. Bohl did not inherit anything even close to that. Their first 2 seasons couldn't be more different. End of discussion.

Bohl inherited a dumpster fire defense. He was not exactly short of talent on the offensive side.

When Bohl corrected the defensive issues and had a QB with a legitimate chance to complete a forward pass the winning was above .500 in MWC play. His defense was the reason why the program was able to get to .500 and above overall. He consistently had offenses that were 100th or below nationally and while the rushing was above average the program lost winnable games because it couldn’t score points. The rushing numbers averaged about 2/3 of AFA numbers that produced MWC wins with points.

Unfortunately the Bohl decision was to not field a strong offense with the ability to use the forward pass as a weapon and IMO it cost the program numerous winnable games.

Sawful inherited the offense Bohl had prepared to replace the Peasley era. I do blame some of the Sawful start on what Bohl had in place such as numerous seasons of trying to “develop” the next Josh Allen instead of focusing on being more proficient in scoring points. Sawful simply ran with it and seemed to have no clue how to handle deficiencies in the program.

The change Sawful is trying to implement this year with the offense is the test to see if he can guide this program to success. The MWC is now loaded with programs who are historically not proficient in winning. It is about as easy as it gets as the majority of programs with no better ability to recruit NIL style than Wyoming.

Wyoming has had 2 assistants who have moved to the head coaching level in the FCS assembling better overall offensive talent than Wyoming has. For the anti-Vigen crowd (I was there) it’s obvious now the guy was following the bosses orders because MSU is not afraid to play offense and score points. With the move to the FBS, Wyoming looks to be chasing after a Polasek led NDSU team that has the ability to play offense.

I blame Burman for his acceptance and rewarding of poor mediocre MWC performances simply because the OOC generally ensured the team reached 6 wins.

As for Wyoming sports media - only fan forums are daring enough to voice criticism. The public media has such a small influence they don’t dare cross the “official” University of Wyoming media. They simply regurgitate it to stay good with access.
