Stanard is not being retained as DC

What!?!? Source? Crazy. I would have thought he earned himself another year.... crazy
There were certainly questions after New Mexico and UNLV. Was that enough to boot him? Are there just certain offences he can't figure out? Or is Bohl going to totally revamp his play calling strategy ?

Maybe they had someone else in mind. I don't like drastic shakeups like this after a good season

Perhaps this will signal the beginning of the switch from the 4-3 to the 3-4. This scheme switch would allow Kevin Prosser to play OLB which is his natural position along with more athletic LB's as a whole. Since we've struggled a bit on the DLine this scheme would also allow us to rely less on big Syd types which we appear to struggle to recruit.

It will be interesting to watch this situation develop and see if Bohl promotes from within or goes outside to find his new DC.

I don't think we have the LBs for 3-4 and not sure we have that dominant NG. I think our DT situation aligns us to a 4-3

I thought he did enough to probably save his job, but I'm not going to shed tears. He seems like a great man, but ultimately I think this was needed to take the next step.

I have mixed feelings

I tend to agree. He certainly wasn't great and we got shredded against UNM and UNLV due his inability to adjust but on the flip side his D held BSU, SDSU, AF, Neb (for 3 quarters) completely in check. This decision surprises me honestly.

I would be against a switch to a 3-4 at this point. We finally seem to have the personnel and seem to be able to recruit the correct personnel (we just signed some really promising DLs).

This actually surprises me. Interesting development. I trust Bohl. He has proven to me he knows what he is doing. There are obviously reasons behind this.

Under Stanard:

Wyoming - Total Defense - National Ranking
2014 - 95
2015 - 78
2016 - 103

Wyoming - Rushing Defense - National Ranking
2014 - 111
2015 - 111
2016 - 93

Wyoming - Pass Defense - National Ranking
2014 - 63
2015 - 27
2016 - 93

Results like these aren't going to save his job, especially since it looks like a regression each year...not a good trend if you want to remain competitive. I think several of us saw this coming, and many hoped it would happen. Time to find a ringer for DC.

We were not a good defense. We finished ranked 103 in total defense. I think it actually shows that Bohl isn't willing to go down with the ship of sub par coordinators like Glenn did, and Stanard has never been a good DC at any of his stops. I think it sends a message that yes we were improved this year, but not enough and we have to do better. I support this.

If I'm Bohl, and my budget for a DC's been increased, Stanard keeps his job if he agrees to the same salary as last year, or a (very, very, very) minimal increase. If not, I take my budget and see how much more it might buy.
