Stanard is not being retained as DC

He helped get us to 2-10 last year and 8-6 this year. I hate the former and really shouldn't be trilled about the latter (but I am).

Thank you for your time here Steve! I wish you luck in your future!

I hope we bring in one hell of a DC. Breske was pretty good - but I think that was much a combination of him and his staff. We need someone with some solid recruiting skills and some serious grit.

This actually surprises me. Interesting development. I trust Bohl. He has proven to me he knows what he is doing. There are obviously reasons behind this.
If I'm Bohl, and my budget for a DC's been increased, Stanard keeps his job if he agrees to the same salary as last year, or a (very, very, very) minimal increase. If not, I take my budget and see how much more it might buy.

If you are more concerned about the money than the record then you are on the interstate to unemployment as a head coach.

Wyoming for the last three years has been one of the worst teams for allowing big plays in the NCAA and also is one of three teams in the NCAA that has averaged allowing over 6 yards per defensive play. Stanard wouldn't have kept his job with most head coaches this long, but Stanard and Bohl go way back. This had to be a really hard decision as they go back to Stanard being a player at Nebraska and Bohl being a coach. Bohl has put everyone on notice, this program is going up and if you aren't part of the reason this program is going up then you are part of the non-productive part that is going to be released. I was shocked by this as was most everyone, but in reflection it was the perfect time to get a defensive coordinator to take the impressive athletes that Wyoming is recruiting to the next level. I agree with the sentiment that Bohl hit the Dennison hire out of the park, and I have no doubt that he will do it with the DC hire. From every report I have read of people like coaches or players that have met with Bohl is that he has a very clear vision as to where he wants to take this program and he knows how he will get that accomplished, and the new DC I have no doubt will be a DC with experience and one that totally shares Bohl's vision and plan and knows how to get it accomplished and has demonstrated that he has actually done it as a DC. The defensive side of the ball certainly held the program back this year with debacles against UNLV and New Mexico, two teams that we were more than capable of beating. I remember seeing more than a few times along the sidelines where Bohl appeared to be agitated with Stanard during conversations between the two. Stanard to his credit has some exceptional game plans at certain times but at other times he appears to be totally outcoached like what UNLV and New Mexico did (to beat a dead horse), but the worst thing was there appeared to be very little to no adjustments being made on the defensive side as the game went along. I trust Bohl as well, and I wouldn't expect this process to take too awfully long.

Thank the lord. We should be able to find someone that knows how to stop the read option.

Mike Breske is currently the DC at Idaho. I loved him at Wyoming although I doubt were going away from the 4-3 and he ran a 3-4.

I'm guessing Bohl had a replacement lined up before they didn't renew the Sheep. I would expect an announcement soon.

Imagine how good this team would be with a tough defense that doesn't get gashed in the run game.

Great news. Go Pokes.

I don't think that Breske is even on the radar....he worked for Bohl at NDSU one year and got fired.

Perhaps this will signal the beginning of the switch from the 4-3 to the 3-4. This scheme switch would allow Kevin Prosser to play OLB which is his natural position along with more athletic LB's as a whole. Since we've struggled a bit on the DLine this scheme would also allow us to rely less on big Syd types which we appear to struggle to recruit.

It will be interesting to watch this situation develop and see if Bohl promotes from within or goes outside to find his new DC.

I remember when Joe Glenn discussed how he was switching from his preferred 4-3 to the 3-4 based on recruiting constraints. I know that I have heard that really good DTs are the hardest players to find in football.

They are. Which is why a switch would be stupid.

Obviously, my point sailed right over your head. The anticipated result was exactly what happened. Look at the language of the whole thing. He wasn't "fired". More than likely he was offered less than he wanted and chose to depart voluntarily. This is always the best possible outcome when looking to terminate someone's employment.
