Somethings fishy. Benjamin 6 turnovers, Sween 0.

Benjamin has turned the ball over 2 times in each scrimmage. Sween has not turned it over once. Benjamin has been playing with the #1 offense vs. #2 defense, While Sween has the #2 offensive players to work with yet he has to go against the #1 defense.

Did Christensen jump the gun putting Benjamin as #1?

I'm not sure, but the fact remains that whoever the QB is will be terrible because our WR's SUCK.

If Glenn had a Bouknight or Malcom Floyd type WR the whole time then he'd still be at Wyoming and Sween would be ALL MWC.

The Reason Sween struggled and Glenn is gone is simply because we have shitty WR's. It's that simple. Wyoming will continue to lose until we have a couple good WR's. It doesn't matter how good the defense is. It doesn't matter if Peyton Manning is the Quarterback, we would still suck. The WR's have sucked for quite some time now. Sween may be the next Joe Montana, but not even Joe can make chicken soup out of chicken shit. To call our WR's high school level is an insult to High School Receivers because most of the ones I've seen can catch the football. :twocents:

Could it be that Sween can't run, and we will need that element to win football games this year...especially since our WR's are having huge issues?

Knowing a couple people, they have all told me that there is little confidence anymore in the locker room for Sween. Too many times he has been fragile in the spotlight and fell apart. This was before the start of fall camp, so maybe their opinions are changing now, but before fall camp, the guys I knew said they liked Sween, but they hoped one of the new guys stepped up because Sween was just too shaky in game situations.

You must have been reading the article this morning, and seem to be agreeing with coaches assessment.

I did read the article, but I've been saying it for a couple years now that it really doesn't matter who the QB is, if you don't have anything reliable to throw the ball to it really is meaningless. All the QB's would suck. And all of them have.

yes. And if he can run and not turn it over, I'm all for it. Because he's going to have to run working with these WR's.

I've been wondering the exact same thing. Benjamin did look better in the first scrimmage, but he did have 2 turnovers while Sween had 0. Frankly, I'd rather have a guy in there who runs for 20 yards and has no turnovers than a guy who runs for 100 yards and has 2 turnovers. TURNOVERS ABSOLUTELY KILL A TEAM. In the last two scrimmages, there is no question in my mind that Sween has been the better quarterback. He has had the highest completion percentage and also has not turned the ball over. I wasn't surprised that Benjamin was kept at #1 after the second scrimmage as I figured the coaches were giving him a pass. Even the greatest QB's have bad days. However, since there was basically a repeat perfromance in the third scrimmage, I will be very interested to see how the reps are split up when practice resumes tomorrow. Some of the articles I read even seemed to suggest that ACS was taking some of the reps with the #2 offense, hinting he might also be moving past Sween. I was blown away by that. I also thought Christensen's comments about ACS were a little perculiar. Christensen mentioned that he really liked how ACS moved the ball in his 2-minute drill even though the kid threw a pick to end the scrimmage. There was no mention of the pick at all by Christensen. Maybe it is just me, but I'm pretty sure a pick in a 2-minute drill ruins any shot at winning that game, no matter how many yards you gained before the pick occured.

Look, I was one of the guys hoping that either Benjamin or ACS would come in and win the starting job, as I have lost all confidence in the Sween and Crum. After 3 scrimmages though, I have to say that Sween has played the best at the QB position so far. Im hoping that Benjamin has another good day in their last scrimmage, so that I at least have some hope going into this season.

Did you listen to Brown and Gold All Access yesterday? They said that ACS is probably past Crum on the depth chart, and that Crum has virtually disappeared. But it was Austin Ward that said he thought Benjamin would be the starter ahead of Sween, even though Sween's been better. But I agree, turnovers killed UW last year, look at the Utah game, so those have to improve, and Benjamin may not be the key to improving that ratio.

I heard that (that ACS may be #3 on the depth chart right now). But...why burn a redshirt...if Sween and Benjamin can't get the job done, ACS isn't going to come in and make the WR's automatically start catching the ball...right???

I agree. I would hate to see them burn ACS's redshirt just to probably not make a difference this season. I don't think he would change the game enough to warrant burning it.

RealUW,

I was at the scrimmage. The pick was just a beast play by Chris Pro. He made and outstanding athletic play on a well thrown ball. ACS looked damn impressive on that drive. You have to give props to Prosinski on that play for pickin' that one.

It looks like Christensen is pushing his younger recruits into playing time, even if they haven't totally earned it. The philosphy being; sacrafice a year and get your younger players experience for the future.
This sucks for Sween, he's just a pawn being used to mentor benjamin and ACS.
I hope Benjamin can play cleaner and his running becomes an assett, but I'm very concerned about Texas coming to town. Because turning it over a bunch vs. Texas and it could get ugly.

FIFY ;)

There, truth to dat!

There is no question that Benjamin will struggle some given how fresh he is to this system and Division 1 football in general, but over time I think people will realize how great of a decision this is.

If you watch just 5 minutes of Sween compared to five minutes of Benjamin, it will make your stomach tingle. Benjamin is the first QB in this program since the Bramlets (I know that isn't encouraging, but...) who throws the football like a professional quarterback. The kid is built like a QB, and in general is simply built like an athlete. He moves like an athlete, he throws like an athlete, and in terms of play making ability, he makes Sween and Crum look ridiculous.

More than anything, after watching these receivers, and this offense in general, it appears DC realized quickly that if the quarterback didn't have the ability to extend plays with his legs, make plays with his legs, and fire the ball into tight windows... it was going to be a lost cause.

You bring up some good points. There is also one glaring reason I don't think Sween sees the field this year unless it is a blowout either way (or injury): 2008 Stats for him...304 total passing yards, 0 TD's, 6 INT's. That sucks.

Speaking of Wyoming QBs......everyone remember that Chris Stutzriem guy? Well.....in his debut at Indiana State, he led them to the worst loss they've had in a long time by falling to NAIA school Quincy.

I kinda feel bad for the dude. But then again, I saw his "rant" on the .mtn the other day when they were replaying the UW football 1/2 hour preseason special...
