So are high fives ok after communion?

Going back a bit, to fill in the story: On our way to Fort Collins for the CSEwe game, I am coaching up my two and a half year old son, much to the chagrin of his mother. I have him wound for sound with everything short of the "BLEEP you CSU" chant (that comes at age 5, no earlier). He announces to his grandfather upon our arrival at Hughes, "Papa, I just hate those stinky sheep - they yucky!" To a host of cheers from fellow Poke fans, my old man just about dies with pride, gives him a high five and we all go on about our merry way, watching our beloved Pokes hoist the Boot and take it back to its rightful home.

Fast forward to church a couple of weekends ago: We are sitting quietly after taking communion. All is still. The world is calm. My son is quietly sitting in the pew, only to turn around. He looks at me. He looks at his mom. He gets a crap eating grin on his face. He points to the stained glass - with Jesus and a flock of lambs about him - and yells, "I just hate those stinky sheep, daddy! They gross!" My wife shoots me the glare from hell. After feigning shock, I pat him on the back and smile...all is still. The world is calm. I think, "Me too son, and so does Jesus."

Men (women), my work has only begun - and I know many of you have enjoyed similar moments. But it does make one well with pride to know that another child is making his way into the world with absolute distain for CSU...Two and a half years old - but wise beyond his years!

Had to share...

And it did bring a tear to my eye when we called from Albuquerque after the New Mexico Bowl to talk to my father-in-law and got to talk to him...his first words, "The Cowboys win, Daddy! They really win! Go Pokes!" According to his grandfather, before Watts' kick in the first overtime, he was kneeling in front of the TV, nervously awaiting the kick...only to be disappointed. After the D held and the deal was sealed, he ran around the house like a mad man screaming - "they did it, they did it, they really did it."

Thats classic! I love those stories.

Summer of 2008, when my son was 5, we were waiting in line for the restroom at a local restaurant. The guy in line in front of us asked how old my son was, said he was big, asked him if he liked football, if he was a Denver Broncos fan. My son said, "yeah but really I like the Wyoming Cowboys", the man went on to ask him if he would like to play in Laramie some day, blah, blah, blah.

So I asked him where he was from, he said Ft Collins. I asked my son, "what football team is from Ft Collins?" My son, without missing a beat, looked the man dead in the eyes, put 2 thumbs down, and said, "CSU....Boooo!" The guy had a laugh with me, and said, man you guys teach em young up here.
