I did have very low expectation for us this year. Not last, but I expected us to be bottom 4. We are only 1 win from being 6th, so that is a little better than I expected. IMO (and I'm sure many will disagree with me), Wyo was not the best team in the conference last year, even when healthy. I think we were 2nd or 3rd, and we lost 4 starters from that team. Unless you are Duke or Kentucky, losing 4 starters is going to kill you the following season, even if the returning guy is a stud. Of course I didn't want us to be this low this year, nor would I ever call it a good season. But it is what I expected, and if anyone expected us to be top 5, they were being overly optimistic.

I agree with the expectation to a point. I predicted 7-11 or 8-10 in MWC play prior to the season. What I didn't anticipate however was a historically weak MWC and an awful OOC performance. I thought we would end up at 16-15 or 17-14 with an RPI in the 120-140 range or so. Dropping down to 14-17 and a RPI of 185, while staying basically healthy, is far worse than I anticipated.

Aside from that, the most disappointing development this year is the lack of development from the young players. James and Naughton look great. They look like Freshman, so their impact comes and goes and they make mistakes, but these guys are MWC caliber talents who will grow into very good players IMO. The sophomore class though? Not so much. JMac's development has been a nice plus, but overall I look at our talent level and it is near the bottom of the league and we only have one scholarship currently open to fix it. That's a problem.

Again, Shyatt knows more about basketball than you, me, or anyone else on this board, so if he doesn't want to play someone over someone else, then I trust his opinion more than yours or mine. And again, JJ has played plenty this year, he's averaging only 1 minute less per game than a guy by the name of Nance did as a freshman.

You said it yourself. We only won 13 games and came in 9th in the conference and that is with the benefit of having arguably the best season ever by a Cowboy. We didn't have to be this bad. Just my opinion, though.

Sign a JC or 5th year transfer big and we are talking about winning the tourney or at minimum an NIT bid. Shyatt missed out in filling our biggest need last spring. Feel bad for Josh because with a little help, this team could have been in a much better position. Especially considering how down the MWC is across the board.

Agreed in general. Not sure about the NIT bid. The league is so weak this year that really only Boise/Fresno have any chance at the NIT (besides SDSU) and I don't think even a Cullen Russo or Grandy Glaze would have been enough to vault us into 2nd place. We could be above .500 though and possibly in the 4/5 range in MWC play.
