SJSU game thread

Personally, I wish nothing but success for the coaches. Failure means we’re losing, and the damage that can be done from that can take a toll. I’m not saying that I don’t agree with some of the criticism, but at the same time, you have to admit that SJSU was out coached last night. The players seem to believe in the staff, and that’s all that really matters. The best thing that can happen is winning and if our coaches get poached, so be it. We’re a developmental program for players and coaches. That’s what all of G6 is. Quit hoping for failure and get behind the team. You can still complain, but calling for firings aren’t going to happen. Enjoy the win and hope for more!

In most instances, I’d agree with you. Unfortunately, we have a long history of celebrating, extending, and retaining mediocre coaches and admin folk…just because they are 6-6 and go to a useless bowl game or go to a meaningless basketball tournament at the end of the year. To me, mediocrity is an intoxicating and deadly mistress, especially in a place that is scared to death of taking risks.

What bowl games that we have access to aren't meaningless? Sure, the playoff, but other than that? Is every non-playoff year a failure?

Penn State just fired their head coach after falling to 3-3 on the year. This guy was 104-45 while the head coach of Penn State.

There are many Wyoming fans who want to erect a statue of Craig Bohl who finished 61-60. If the fans demanded more, then there would be change. Unfortunately, too many current fans are okay with going 6-6 and getting a bid to the Rubbermaid Mixing Bowl. I'm not suggesting we are even remotely in Penn State's zip code, but Wyoming standards used to be much higher than they are today. These useless bowl games are nothing more than a modern day participation trophy. The whole thing needs to be torn down, starting with Burman, and rebuilt. Stop rewarding average because it's the "best we can do." Fuck, if your Uber driver only got his passengers to the correct destination 50% of the time, you would probably fire his ass. Same with any other profession, except coaches at Wyoming. They get a pass and an extension for being average.

This gets uncritically repeated a lot. I know of zero Wyoming fans who think Craig Bohl's tenure merits statue erection status. I assume this statement is hyperbolic forum-speak....but what is driving it?

Side note: 1 year removed from cfb playoff? Not sure that was the best move. Won't happen but I'd love Franklin running WYO (i don't know if he'd have the recruiting ties in the west?).

I guess just me but I didn't think coaching was too terrible after the 1st quarter or 1.5 quarters. Over 400 yds of O. Completely shut down run. Better job containing pass or least preventing scoring. Time management at end of 1st wasn't the best but that wasn't an easy situation either. Even getting in position to score is a change I like. No doubt we'd have run that out under Bohl.

I'm not a PBJ fan but Joser is better than their record. The O needs to finish but for all the problems, the ball is getting moved.
If anyone noticed, we came out playing a 3-3-5 on defense. Then went to a 4-2-5. All to shut down their passing game. Obviously did not work as our DB's could not cover Scaduro. We had no pressure on Eget during that first quarter with these defensive schemes. In the second quarter we switched back to our base 4-3 defense and began getting pressure on the QB. Bohl JR and Sawvel outsmarted themselves in that first quarter. Once we had pressure on the quarterback their offense began to stall and kept us in the game.
