Did Shyatt resign or retire? I've heard both and I've read both.
I'm starting to wonder if there aren't some very deep rooted problems in the administration as a whole. I haven't dealt with anyone from the University in the last two years, but it used to seem like a pretty toxic atmosphere in general.
I certainly wonder why it took until last July to get him and his staff a contract extension - after they won won the first MWC tourney title ever. The last big championship was the regular season title in the early 2000's. If you include the AA remodel being in limbo - I could certainly understand how someone could be frustrated and not think the support was behind him.
Take a recent look at the reprimands from the conference. They almost seemed to try to single him out at times. The conference administration doesn't make the conference look nearly as respectable as the MWC should. Did they have an axe to grind with him?
My understanding of his hiring was he was interested in returning to Wyoming and building something. 5 years later, after a contract extension, he leaves. He is 64. I wouldn't think he would retire for at least two more years. Something doesn't seem right here.
If I'm reading too deep into this, well, at least things are better than I'm thinking they are. At the moment, I think there are some major problems at UW and the conference level.
