Semi-OT: WTF Saban?

OK, I get that he doesn't like up tempo because he can't stop it, but he should really watch his comments:
"The fastball guys (up-tempo coaches) say there's no data out there, and I guess you have to use some logic. What's the logic? If you smoke one cigarette, do you have the same chances of getting cancer if you smoke 20? I guess there's no study that specifically says that. But logically, we would say, 'Yeah, there probably is.'"

Someone in physiology at Alabama should probably point him in the direction of thousands of studies on smoking, level of smoking, etc. and how it relates to cancer.

Back to FB topic, however, it seems like the 10 second rule (i.e. offense can't snap in first 10 seconds of play clock) doesn't have much support. The whole basis is reduce the number of plays resulting in decreased exposure for player injury.

I wonder if Saban would support that if a rule was also in place, no defensive substitutions for the first five seconds of the play clock? My suspicion is that he just wants to be able to rotate those big ole boys in and out to keep them from wearing down.

So i gather Saban would be in support of just making the game shorter. Cut the game time in half. Fewer injuries.

When I was little I would make up my own rules to games. I won every game. It was good for my opponents to play by my rules and keep from getting beat up.

The guy's logic isn't wrong. His motive is most certainly not player safety though, that's a guarantee.

I cant believe Saban is using "player safety" as the motivating reason behind the proposed rule change. What a tool. :willybs:

More play more injuries.....ha well using that logic...wouldn't you just eliminate football altogether? :willybs:

I personally believe the uptempo is safer due to a variety of factors.

Big fast hitting other big fast isn't exactly the safest.....and although nobody likes seeing anyone injured.....isn't inherent danger what makes this sport so popular?

Other than MMA/Boxing.....football's controlled violence is what makes it so great. :twocents:

Since he is very worried on player safety, I'm sure he would also be in favor of a weight limit, bench and squat limit for all athletes as well right? I mean how safe is it when 300+ lb lineman from Alabama with xxx amount they can bench and squat, line up against other teams with lineman that are 20 or 30 pounds lighter and can bench and squat less? :o

or playing fcs teams......

I wonder if Saban knows that all the non-bs teams, coaches, & fans are laughing their a$$ off at his antics!

Play clock is now 90 seconds. Let's make sure everyone has time to be ready

You know men can do anything in less than a minute.

I don't know.

I think I'd need more than 90 seconds to go down the field about 50 yards to the huddle, much less get ready for the ball to snap...

That's why I sit in the stands!
