That, and if we could afford not playing at big schools, get as many home games as possible during OOC.
Load up on patsies, and don't leave Laramie until October.

Pretty much thiskansasCowboy said:Initial thought is 4-8. Progress. More depth in the lines. RBs depth bringing in a new QB, that will last more than one year. Oh! And we have a Kicker
At best: 6-6... BOWL!! We overachieve and steal one or two and win the ones we need to.
At worst: 2-10. I may begin to question where the problem lies. O or D or coaching.

Teams that are on the verge of breakout typically have a year "under the radar". The record isn't necessarily good but nobody really likes to play them either. Usually, only fans of the team or fans of teams in the conference notice.
I hope that is where we are this year. We might only win 3-5 games but we only lose by an average of 3-7 points for the majority of the rest and few if any games get away from us before the 4th quarter.
That is kind of what I'm looking for this year and would be ecstatic with 6+ wins. A disappointment will be only 0-5 wins with the majority of games well out of hand by the 3rd quarter or earlier.
Let me start with this, I understand your role on here right now is the sarcastic, pessimistic asshole but I think you crossed the line to annoying douche a long time ago when talking about Cowboy football. But anyways, your Beavs went 2-10 and couldn't beat the laughing stock of the Pac-12 Colorado at home last year. With the Pac-12 going to 9 game conference schedules, where do you expect them to find wins as they went winless in conference last year? Just saying they have a long road to haul.BeaverPoke said:NebraskaCowboy said:Ha. Good joke. Your boys at Oregon State don't have the money to do that so why would Wyoming? Well for what it's worth, since 1999 Wyoming has only ended up winning more games than the Beavers one time. So I don't know if it's as much of a lock you might think it is.
But your saltiness for Oregon State aside, 2-10 is kind of low balling them, you're right, but at the same time, what has the team done to make people think they will be good?
Hell, even last season I predicted we would go to a bowl game. Only to see us get dominated by North Dakota and Eastern Michigan...at home.
We could beat NIU at home, I won't rule that out. But as of now, NIU is ahead of us big time. They had 8 wins last season, in what was a down year for them. I think they are coming off 40+ wins the last 4 years.
@Nebraska... Mike Riley tends to get out to slow starts, but Wyo should still be very over-matched vs the Huskers.
UC-Davis. We should win that. We better win that.
Eastern Michigan... any time you see EMU on the schedule you count that as a win. But wait, we got worked by them last season. So no way in hell is that a lock by any means. Still should grab a win.
@CSU... I think they are clearly ahead of us, and it's on the road. But it's a rivalry game so anything can happen.
AFA. Similar to CSU, they are just a better program currently than us, but we do stand a chance.
@Nevada... Although we beat them last season, I think Nevada will want revenge for what was an ugly bump in the road for what ended up being a solid season overall.
Boise State... yeah right.
Utah State... Possible, it's in Laramie. They blew us out last season though. Have they lost enough, and have we gained enough to close that gap?
@UNLV... If the team is losing as much as I think the schedule sets them up to be, the team will be 2-7. And 8-25 under Bohl. This is why I think the team packs it in. If we get to this point, the writing will be on the wall and the coaching staff will start freshening up those resumes. If we are doing a little better than I expected, something like 4-5 at this point, yeah I will say we can win this game.
SDSU... They blew us out last season and should be good again. Expect more of the same.
@NM... NM has turned into a half-way decent program again, and could need this win to go bowling, where we could be staring another 2 win season in the face.
Is it selling them short? Maybe. Not any worse than last season was though.
Is it pessimistic? Yes.
Would I still love to be proven wrong? Hell yeah I would!
Nothing would be better than getting a surprise win over NIU and going into Lincoln and upsetting the Huskers, smashing an FCS team, and smashing Eastern Michigan, and being 4-0 headed into the Border War.
Hell I would love to go bowling at 6-6.
Until we start seeing results in terms of wins and losses though, there is nothing to get excited about. It's all been hype and talk about how someday we will be good, while losing and getting blown out.
As usual, spot on.ragtimejoe1 said:Critical year. I was thinking that too.OrediggerPoke said:Maybe its just me...but I really like the thought of at home on November 19 against San Diego State.
Sometimes there is more to the story than the score. Wyoming was looking good when Josh Allen was the quarterback. But things fell apart when 3rd string QB Nick Smith was forced into action. They only outgained us by 50 yards...and Smith was 3-13 for no yards.jessejames02 said:2-10 isn't pessimistic. That's realistic. EMU beat us at home by 19 and we lost by less than our average loss.
Is there really though?JimmyDimes said:Sometimes there is more to the story than the score.

Offense was looking good. Wyoming was moving the ball and Josh was impressive IMO. As soon as Allen got hurt, the momentum changed. Smith had many opportunities but couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Probably the worst QB performance I have ever seen. To Smith's credit, he did improve as the season moved along. The D was green, as I mentioned...but the offense was moving the ball and EMU didn't have an answer for Allen in the two series he played.OrediggerPoke said:JimmyDimes said:Sometimes there is more to the story than the score. Not to derail the topic as this fairly unrelated...
However, I do recall the game being a warm sunny day and I did have a few adult beverages prior to kickoff...that said, your "looking good" is much different than mine. Even when Josh Allen was in the game, our defense couldn't be described as anything but terrible. EMU moved the ball and put up points at will. We did put up a lot of yards on the ground in the second half (after the game had long since been decided) against what could be argued as the worst rushing defense in the entire country. Josh Allen would not have changed the outcome of that game. It is sad to say, but a 1-11 MAC team (with its lone win over Wyoming) was the much better team on the field that day.
Had Allen not gotten hurt I think we would have won in a shoot out.OrediggerPoke said:JimmyDimes said:Sometimes there is more to the story than the score. Wyoming was looking good when Josh Allen was the quarterback. But things fell apart when 3rd string QB Nick Smith was forced into action.
