Regarding the Beer Song. I don't hate the song as much as I hate the constant chanting of certain students to hear the song. Usually during times when we should be cheering for something on the field all people seem to care about is hearing the beer song. Incredibly annoying. Once or twice a game is great but any more and I begin to hate it.

You have to realize that it's incredibly cool to 18 and 19 year olds to be requesting a song about beer. ;)

i truly agree the constant request for the beer song is truly annoying, but what do you expect from immature bored college students, i just wish they'd get creative and chant or cheer for the game on the field. Man i remember when we went to games without those cell phones etc....that's also an annoying thing as well, but I'm of a different generation. it's gonna be fun for a bit and hope that the miracle can happen, but going for the atmosphere....Husker fans be prepared for our classless students and have a great time at UW

@huskernation

If you are looking for a few good places to eat here are some suggestions.

Corona Village

Grand Avenue Pizza

The Library (walking distance from the stadium with plenty of gameday food & beverages plus you can watch some of the other games there.

In Heaven There is no Beer, an old classic Polka that I used to hear all the time when my parents would listen to the Polka radio show on Sundays. Yes, I could see how it could get old, but it is just a bunch of college kids enjoying what could be some of the most fun days of their lives. That's how I remember college, it was a great time in my life and a hell of a lot of fun.

@Thirtyseven, thanks for the suggestions.

I think if we can get there early enough and find a spot we are going to park by the baseball field. Does that lot fill up early for big games?

Additional places to dine (other than those mentioned by 37):

Downtown:

Altitude Chophouse & Brewery (decent beer, decent American Bistro food)
Luciano's Italian (only Italian in Laramie, decent, good value)
El Conquistador - Mexican (get the Archie Special, green chile is a must)
Tommy Jack's Cajun Grill (Bayou food w/ American flair. Try a Mexi Marg)
Lovejoy's (American food, decent)
Anong's - Thai (Thai...what can you say)
Jeffrey's Bistro (Wear your Birks)
Mizu Sushi (Sushi...what can you say)

Around Town:

McAllisters Deli (no booze, good sand though)
Bailey's (booze, good sand also)
CAV (expensive, and has been poor for the last 2+ years)
Chilis
Crapplebee's
Village Inn
Perkins
Chelo's - Mexican
Bernie's - Mexican

Out of Town:

Bear Tree Tavern - Centennial (great pizza)
Trading Post - Centennial (great steaks)
Old Corral - Centennial (decent steaks)
Woodslanding - Woodslanding (american dining, good value)

Google any place above...and you will find out more than you probably want to.

There are something like 30 places to consume adult beverages in Laramie...so take your pick and follow the crowd. If you are downtown Friday night, I understand that Tommy Jack's has the street blocked off and a band...with beer...always a great time.

Oh, and as always...free ride for those that drink: Saferide 307-766-7433

These were my fav two spots in Laramie. Driving through the ghetto to Chelo's was worth the food and the ass on fire afterwards!

Yeah, the Cavalrymen has sucked for awhile.

Though a good breakfast place is the Chuckwagon. They've always had good food whenever I've been there.

Another great breakfast option is the Prarie Rose. Great breakfast burrito w/ green chile sauce. Usually on a waiting list, so expect it. Luciano's also used to do a breakfast buffet as well...but haven't heard anything for a while.

didn't we steal it from iowa anyways?

No. It's an old polka that's got something like 37 verses to it. And it's been played at UW for a looooonng time. In fact, I recently saw a clip of the '87 holiday bowl, and you can hear it then. Honestly, it's one of the few traditions at UW that has stood the test of time, mostly because it is so popular with students.

Agreed. As a former member of Western Thunder, it gets REALLY old hearing that constantly. When I was there (97-02), an unwritten rule was put in place that it would only be played once a quarter, and then usually when we were leading. Students chanted for it incessantly though. Guess it's hard to get too creative when you can barely stand. :D

GO POKES!

No, I went to school in '87 and I can tell you it was being played before we ever played Iowa.
