Rashad Muhammad

Saw a ton of action on twitter today... Muhammad was retweeting all the WYO fans tweets. Nance was touting him on twitter and Muhammad seemed to be loving it.

Good to see WYO is recruiting guys we are interested in and following like big time programs do!

Also heard Shyatt mention there is a possibility a player who's already graduated who has one year left could transfer in and be that last scholarship.

Should be an interesting month.
He also had a tweet earlier that he was talking to a kid from his high school and seemed like he liked it here. I will try to talk to Larry Nance tomorrow and see if I can find out anything on how he liked his visit.

Any new news on this? If you followed him on Twitter it seemed like he was having a good time and enjoyed the love Wyo fans were giving him.

If he hasn't commited by now, I'm guessing he won't.

Why? He said earlier that he was taking multiple visits and was gonna commit after them all...why would he change that now?

I do wonder what the drop dead date is for Muhammad to give a verbal is? I'm sure other transfers and graduates don't want to wait around forever.

I'm guessing mid-May?

Well since the signing period doesn't start for a few more days, I don't think anyone is gonna get any commitments.
But I guess it depends on if Shyatt wants Muhammad more or the transfer more.

Muhammad will be visiting San Jose St this weekend

Hopefully he recognizes their lack of fan support and poor venue. Should be night and day compared to the Cowboys.

They were awful in a bad WAC.

Also saw that Utah State signed a guard out of Nevada today. Will probably put them out of the Muhammad sweepstakes.

Man this is really looking great for the pokes. I can't imagine he'll go to SJSU and think the school/program/venue/fans will be better. My one fear is that Rashad is watching the weather channel this week and may favor the weather of San Jose over the weather in Laramie.....

Hopefully he's not a head case like his brother.. who has had plenty of controversy around him the last year or so..

His brother was also the leading scorer on a PAC-12 championship team an at-large NCAA tourney entrant as a Freshman. I will take a head case like that any time whether they are 18, 19, or 47.

Obviously Rashad is not considered the prospect his brother is, but I wouldn't mind a little drama if it lands us some talent. Since we have had 3 players arrested in the last year, it's not like we have some pristine image to uphold. If we are going to incur negative publicity due to the off-court exploits of our players, at least have them be good enough to win some games.

Too cynical?

You had drama with Martinez, did you enjoy that?

Nope. That's my point. If we are going to have that kind of drama anyway, at least have a high major talent level. I would rather not have the program in the news for negative items, but it seems to be a pretty continuous stream in both revenue sports. The only thing worse than a renegade athletic program is a renegade athletic program that loses. If we are going to continue to make negative headlines, let's at least win some games.

Alternatively, Tom Burman could get control of the athletic department, stop apologizing for incidents that don't deserve apologies, and hire successful coaches. I am just not holding my breath on that possibility.

If memory serves, we were undefeated at the time of the bar fight. Last season was a good example of negative (national) headlines + winning games. If you are going to talk about that trade-off, at least recognize that we were an undefeated, Top 25 team when the drama took center stage.

Muhammad has committed to San Jose State. Surprising considering their team and facilities are absolute garbage.

At least we will get to play him and see how he progresses.

Not all that surprising.
Weather there is better than here.
Babes there are hotter than here.
California is more californian than Wyoming.

Recruits don't always see Wyoming athletics the way we do.

I hope all that comes in to play when he is playing in front of 400 fans. Can't fault a kid for a choice but that one is a head scratcher.

Maybe we should give some credit to their new coach and the job he is doing. I am reasonably certain that Nessman would not have landed Muhammad.

Keonta Vernon also had an offer from SJSU(among others) and chose UW. A lot of different factors at play in a recruits decision.

I think keonta vernon plays with a chip on his shoulders. Kid seems like an absolute beast and knew he could excel as a hoops player under shyatt. Muhammad bring from Vegas, where everything is constantly going on, and having his big bro go to a huge program and now the nba, seems like he is more interested in the fast life. Interested in more than hoops and wants to be "the man".

I would rather have players like vernon than Muhammad.

I think for recruiting it is best to go after players that either want to grow as a bball player, or get kids that already have chosen their majors and sell the academics to them.
Screw the players that wanna be the big man on campus and have it all about them.

Wouldn't we all rather have Larry nuance Jr over that one big we got that left to go to south Florida who then left there to go to some juco and is now at his 4th school in 2 years?
