Rashad Muhammad

I've read that Rashad Muhammad will be visiting Wyoming Monday-Wednesday. He is the brother of probable top 10 pick Shabazz.

It looks like Utah State and Drake have offered him and trying to get him to visit their campus as well. Hope Shyatt & co. Can court him like they did Vernon! He would be a big time talent and the shooter we need. Would probably also bring some national attention our way coupled with Nance Jr.

Well hopefully he gets some quality head while he is here.
(what that is what I would base my college career off of LOL)

Plus he should be able to contribute right away as he should be more mature than a typical incoming freshman...probably comparable to the age of a junior/senior

Hopefully he's not a head case like his brother.. who has had plenty of controversy around him the last year or so..

His brother was also the leading scorer on a PAC-12 championship team an at-large NCAA tourney entrant as a Freshman. I will take a head case like that any time whether they are 18, 19, or 47.

Obviously Rashad is not considered the prospect his brother is, but I wouldn't mind a little drama if it lands us some talent. Since we have had 3 players arrested in the last year, it's not like we have some pristine image to uphold. If we are going to incur negative publicity due to the off-court exploits of our players, at least have them be good enough to win some games.

Too cynical?

You had drama with Martinez, did you enjoy that?

I have heard Shabazz has been a pain while at UCLA.....he was not happy there, and had no problem showing it. Part of that may be on Howland and his approach, but that said.....I hope Rashad is different. If his older brother wants to get out of Los Angeles fast, imagine Laramie......

Yeah it would be crazy having someone like that here...but who knows maybe it starts a new trend here.
Maybe Laramie turns into a b-ball city, UW becomes a big basketball school, and the State becomes more hoops crazy, and players wanna start coming here cuz the b-ball tradition.

Who knows why Shabazz wanted out of UCLA so bad. Maybe cuz the program had problems on the inside. Maybe the kid is just a punk and doesn't wanna work hard. Maybe he is more of a big fish small pond type guy who should have been in a place like Laramie to begin with.

Who knows if his brother is anything like him.

Landing this kid would be the biggest recruiting victory for the program in a while! Maybe since landing Ewing...

I don't know if you read the SI article on the UCLA program last year but it exposed a ton. They've had a lot of transfers in Howland's tenure. A couple MW guys for example: Moser & Drew Gordon.

Shyatt and staff seem to have a pretty tight bond with their players like WYO's previous regime. Ajayi was a prime example of a player putting himself above team and the players were in support of his exit.

Speaking of Ajayi, he is getting ready to head off to his 4th school next fall (UW, FIU, Collin County College, now Eastern Michigan). All of his drama has not exactly led him to the golden opportunity that he believes is his birthright. His delusions of grander are going to land him a bench role on a sub 200 RPI MAC team.

He will actually only be the 2nd best former Wyoming player on EMU (Daylen Harrison).

Nope. That's my point. If we are going to have that kind of drama anyway, at least have a high major talent level. I would rather not have the program in the news for negative items, but it seems to be a pretty continuous stream in both revenue sports. The only thing worse than a renegade athletic program is a renegade athletic program that loses. If we are going to continue to make negative headlines, let's at least win some games.

Alternatively, Tom Burman could get control of the athletic department, stop apologizing for incidents that don't deserve apologies, and hire successful coaches. I am just not holding my breath on that possibility.

Here's a link from 2011 from the Las Vegas Sun: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/jul/22/rashad-shadow-of-top-recruit-brother-shabazz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

According to that he's had some pretty big schools pursue him. Again, really hope we get him!

landing a player of his caliber would really be a shot in the arm for this program. Imagine a true point like Trey Washington with a Shooting Guard with the ability to slash like Rashad Muhammed and a big body shooting forwar/slasher like Hankerson and DC and Larry down low!?! Then Keonta, Josh Adams, and Grabau coming off the bench. Thats a team that would make some noise. For the sake of argument, if either of those newcomers don't quite pan out as expected you switch their roles. Adams can run the point and be backed up by Trey, etc. I really hope Papa Shy and Co. can make this a reality.

What is the danger of getting a player like Desmar, who thinks he is a hot-shot, better than anyone else, and is reluctant to pass it and be a team player? Or does Shyatt see that before he recruits someone?

Who is Desmar?

Desmar Jackson, transfered out of Wyoming when Shyatt came in. Many happy to see him go in spite of his high scoring.
