Rank Hills decision to leave early.....

It wasn't as bad as Alvester's. Will it prove to be as good or better than Derek Martin's?

Time will tell.

I feel kinda like he made the same mistake as others have made. I understand why he left backs have short careers and he would have taken another year off his NFL career being a workhorse in Wyoming.

Problem like many in the past my opinion the class was to deep with RBs and he would have been a better prospect next year.

I think hindsight is easy but right now I think he would have been a higher pick in next years draft but there are no guarantees

I really think he made the right move. He was drafted and that validates his decision to go. I think another year as a heavy duty feature back in college would really hurt his draft stock. Make that money when you can.

Agreed. Another year in college is likely one less year collecting a check in the pros.

He made the right choice. He maybe climbs to the third or fourth round if he stays, that is not worth the injury risk for playing for free. Looking at the qb situation Allen probably should have left early too.

I'm of the opinion that Hill leaving early wasn't the best decision.

If he stayed an extra year, he would have got a lot of exposure on ESPN with Allen as qb. Oregon and Iowa would have helped expose him to a larger part of the country. In addition, the running back class isn't near as deep next year. There would have been less competition at running back next season and more teams looking, increasing his value.

Hill could have joined a running back by committee situation. Yeah he still would have got carries, but not as many as he has been. With Hall, Nico, and Overstreet, he could have shared the load and entered the draft fresh. He could have shown the NFL that he is a good receiver.

I think Hill could have got guaranteed money if he stayed next season. He would have moved up significantly, especially with the exposure he would get next year.

Some agent got paid. If Hill would have waited a year it would have been a much bigger check.

I agree. My guess is he would have had higher expectations with the experience at the receiver spot that graduated, losing Gentry and corp. Major injury and he may not have been drafted at all waiting another year.

Leaving early to be a 5th round draft pick in the NFL is a bad decision no guarantees, you get hurt tomorrow you get a signing bonus($180000) and that's it, goodbye. Third round ($800000) he's getting some guaranteed money (2/3 years) and alot more of it. The money difference between 3rd round and 5th round is almost triple and more security. It is what it is good luck Brian Hill.

If he get hurt tomorrow, I'd rather have 180k in my pocket than sitting on Wyoming's bench watching games and then not getting drafted at all.

On that 180000 senerio you do know you have to pay taxes and agent fee plus any loans you might have been fronted. Get hurt in mini camp and Boom, goodbye.
Go back to school because you have no degree. Money gone. It happens all the time gotta get that garenteed money if you can. Josh won't have that problem next year........Maybe

RBs fall off around age 30. A bunch of QBs play into their late 30s no problem. One extra year in college not as damaging to longevity, and is actually beneficial to get more games on tape for teams to evaluate.

I have never been a fan if kids leaving college early, but...

I happened to look at the NFL.com draft synopsis on Brian Hill (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/brian-hill?id=2558112) and noticed that it listed the number of carries he already had in his career as a "weakness". Yes, he was a workhorse for UW, but it looks like he already had more carries than would be ideal by NFL standards for a back coming out of college. If he had stayed, that number would have only increased.

Again, I hate seeing young men leave college early. 4-5 years of college have immeasurable value for lots of people, not just athletes. But it looks like the NFL thought that Brian already had more than his fair share of college carries.

I think he probably made the right call, no matter how much it hurts our Pokes next year.

Another note: the NFL.com website only had an analysis for the two Wyoming players who were drafted posted--even on Thursday.
